Jebao WP25 Information

I know this is a little off topic, but does anyone have any updated info on the WP25?
I wonder what the GPH ratings will be at the various settings.

This is exactly the topic! People are ranting off on how Jebao is comparing to Vortech and Tunze which is not the topic here. Let's get back to the topic. I am getting tired of the fight. So unproductive.:sad1:

I want to put one or two in my 46 gallon and put away the four hydors in my tank. smaller profile and controller? im down to give it a shot.

That is exactly the topic of this post. Info on the WP25.
I am expecting an e-mail back from Jebao tomorrow on that very question. I'll post it here if I get it.

I know the 40 would turn my tank into a blender so I'm hoping there is a good range on the 25 for smaller tanks.

i'm really not trying to "stir the pot", and i know enough about business to know that advertising, marketing, paying employees/benefits, etc is NOT done for free... or as cheap in the u.s. as many other countries for that matter. but lets say this pump does come out, and does cost $30... of course, time will tell about it's quality/reliability (which will be a big factor for many) but this really doesn't look good for some of the other high end powerhead companies (sales wise, and reputation wise)...

i always wondered how/why something that is essentially pushing water could be so costly... yeah, it may have other bells and whistles, wireless syncing, etc but dropping $465 on a single powerhead always seemed insane to me. i understand that this hobby isn't always cheap, and cutting corners isn't always a good idea in general, but i can think of 500 other things that i'd rather spend $400+ on. maybe i'm nitpicking, it's not like these other companies are holding a gun to peoples heads to buy their product, but i always get a bad taste in my mouth when i see something that seems (and please correct me if 'm wrong) ridiculously marked up. obviously i don't have access to these other companies financials, and maybe their profit margin isn't as huge as it seems? and even if it is, are they wrong for trying to make the most money possible? if people are going to pay it, maybe they're just better at business than me! reputation on the other hand...

i hope i'm not jinxing anything, but what i'm getting at is that i really hope the WP25 and WP40 end up forcing some of the "high end" companies to lower consumer prices. despite a less than stellar reputation in the u.s. market, maybe these chinese companies can help level the playing field on a cornered market. even if the quality isn't all there, if these things last a year, i'd rather replace a $30 powerhead annually for the next decade than drop $400 all at once (the latter of which also requires replacements every so often.)

will be interesting to see where things go in the next year or two.

Sorry, I'm gonna reply before reading all of the 5 pages.

As for cost"¦ they can charge as much as someone is willing to pay.

I have made several things in the past. I made an tranny adapter for motor and it took me about 40-60 hrs in researching and testing fit and redoing before I came up with a design that worked and I liked. I made the first one out of aluminum because it was easier for me the trim it.

I took it to a laser cutter and got a quote to cut it out. At the time it was 12.00 each in lots of 12. Now I still had to counter sink 2 holes but with the bolts supplied with the kit it cost me about 22.00. I could sell them all day long for 75.00 and all of the other vendors were 149.00 and up for the same thing.

And yes I did get several phone calls from the vendors complaining and asking me to increase my price because it was not fair. I even had one vendor after I was nice and let him know where to get a custom bolt premade instead of make them in-house, he bought all the stock and then paid the vendor to not sell to me.

I am in the pharmaceutical industry and this sure sounds like how the big pharma companies treat generic companies who are trying to sell the same drug at lower cost when the patent expires. Yes, the big pharma companies did the research and development but they were rewarded with 17 yrs of patent protection and have reaped billions in profit. Big pharma will do anything to stop low cost competition.

I am curious on how strong the magnets are on the WP25s. I have a 120 with a fairly thick glass. I don't know if this will stick on the glass or if I need the bigger WP40.

Same thing with automotive and oil companies. Do oil companies really want there to be green machines? Of course not, it would cripple them.

Last I heard they are suction cup mounted. This was their "prototype" so I hope they reconsider that. I'm all for modding a magnet mount though. I got some koralia magnets layin around.

OK, thanks! I guess I'll have to wait and see for the final product. I'd rather have 2 WP25s than a single WP40.

The WP40 is not truly a suction mount. I has a suction cup to get it in place, but then there is a pretty strong magnet that used to hold it in position.

Another way to look at it is the rubber from the suction cup (on both the inner and outer magnets) acts a cushion so the magnets don't slam against the glass.
