Jimmys Insanity *600 gallon cube*

Me too. I'm looking forward to this take shape. I love cubes (especially big ones) even if I can't bring myself to build one. I guess I love the symmetry of them. Good luck with the build!

Well the BRS order arrived. Brand new RO/DI system with all the bells and whistles. It has the oil filled pressure gauge, dual TDS meter & multi stage DI canisters. We figured since Jimmy will be making a ton of water, might as well start off the right way. The new 46.5" VHO UV Super Actinic bulbs that we needed to finish off the light rack also arrived along with numerous GFO/Carbon reactors and all the odd and ends.

The Apex arrived the other day and is looking sexy. Tho it was a little camera shy. I will try to get a few pictures posted in the next day or two. This tank is getting close to set up. All the big items have been purchased and are in storage. Now we just need to get the tank moved into the house, slap a fresh polish job on it & buy some fresh sand. Jimmy is a little back an forth about the rock he has in the other tank. The existing 400 gallon tank has some nice rock and has a lot of coral already attached, but it has aptaisa and majano's. We're looking at Macro rocks and seeding it with some live rock and starting off the new tank with out any of the head aches of the exsisting rock/tank, but this will be a pretty large investment since a few hundered pounds would be needed. But I've seen some othe coolest aqua-scaping done using Macro, Decisions-Decisions.

I ended up getting rock from reef cleaner and I have nothing but great things to say about it. Even told him the size of my tank and what I was looking for, he gave me just what I wanted and shipping was free. Also the rock was extremely clean, just rinse and put in tank.

Well after stock piling parts for the past few weeks, it was time to move the tank into the house. This was chore as we expected. A few friends, Jimmy & I were the cheap labor. It took us an hour and a trip to Lowes to pick up a fridge dolly. We managed to get it done tho

Any concerns about the tile cracking or getting damaged or are you planning on putting plywood underneath the stand legs? It seems like an awful lot of weight supported by four small points of contact.

Stand looks great though...love the color!

Now that the beast is inside, we started by sanding down the back a little so we could paint the back. The tank is going to a three sided walk around, so the black back ground will hide some of the wires that will run up to the light rack/power heads. We also decided to cover up the blue over flo with some fresh back acrylic. We want thecoral an fish to be thecenter of attention and not a bright blue over flow. We threw a little black plastic spray paint on the overflows teeth just ensure a nice clean install.

Sorry for all the crappy pics, but I just didn't see the need to bust out the nice camera yet. Here's Jimmy washing out the huge sump & what $250 of PVC looks like. Better to have too much then not enough. Just make sure to save the reciept. The tank is in great shape, It just looks nasty from me crawling in and out and leaving greasy finger prints every where.

Niceeee.... Cant wait to see it up. Been following since you started. Im in the process of putting up a new tank 4'x25"x2'. I just went to test my skimmer and it was making noise.. Well turns out the impellers shaft is broken... Soo now im searching for a new impeller (via aqua 2600) Preferably a needle wheel :-) Ya gotta love this hobby... And i thought my boat was expensive (thank god its gone!, Its truly abbreviated "Break out another thousand") hhahah

Do yourself a favor and use the pink Teflon tape, the white always leaks. Trust me! Also I would spend a bit more on higher quality valves too.

I have some higher end ball valves and gate valves that I bought online. But for certain parts of the plumbing, these will work just fine. I have used them on many tanks in the past. They are the Honda's of plumbing, not the nicest but will get the job done.

I don't want to sound negative I just wanted to share what I have learned. Nice build btw, I subscribed.
