Have you thought about letting one of the locals watch the tank so you can get away with her?

Of course, but like I said, when she lived here, I wasn't active in the local scene at all.

Nowadays, it would be different.

Nevertheless, I'd still rather spend my money on the tank and not some trip to NY for 7 days  I just don't want to say that to her!!

Actually, she is a really great person. I make it sound much worse than it is ;) The fish tank is the one thing that she really doesn't like, but she knows its not going anywhere.

Hows that baby coming along now?

She's nearly done! Filled, water and corals. I used a temp return line hanging over one side until I could get ahold of some more 3/4" pvc. Finished that up last night. Now just need some loc-line, which I'm getting from bored4long tonight, put the screen covers together to keep the wrasse's in the tank, and organize the mess of corals in there. Also putting my wavebox to good use now that I've got some magnets for it.
Then, I'll just need to get my wreck of a garage cleaned up and under control before I have more visitors next weekend.:D

Once she sees that things will be different, she'll come around.

The way I got my wife interested was to let her pick out things for the tank. Corals, fish, or whatver else she liked. I still ask her opinion on corals and fish and if she sees anything she'd like.

You're makin me hungry, Jim :D

Chiller - I don't think you should put it inside your stand (if that's the plan). I did that in my last tank, and the chiller never turns off. The hot air blowing out warms the sump, kicking in the chiller. vicious cycle.

Come on up and we can grill some burgers and chill by the pool :D

I'll have to explain this as I can tell you guys already think I'm crazy. trust me.

I made a large gap in between the stand and the wall. The chillel will sit in this gap above the sump with a fan blowing on it to circulate the air. Its tough to imagine, but I'm pretty sure it'll work. I'm gonna get a second opinion from my stepdad (engineer) and see what he thinks, but I'm pretty sure I can pull this off :)

Does that burger come with some Rolaids? :D Forget the T-Bone tonight. I know what I'm having

Chiller - I just assumed that you had an enclosed stand, which is what I had, except for 2 4" fans for circulation :p.

Dude, that burger took me two sittings to finish, but I didn't need any rolaids :D But if heartburn is a regular thing for you, yes. I would recommend rolaids

I have seen your tank and stand so I think I know what you are talking about. Please do not do this :eek2: You will still be fighting a battle that will only cause your bill to go up, which in turn will limit your pink ties and large hamburgers.

My stand in 3 inches off the wall and I have fans down there as well. There in no way I would even think of tring that. Have you ever used a chiller before? I ask you this because I was very surprised how much heat was produced by my chiller.

I am not trying to doubt you Jim, If anyone can do this, it would be you. I am just sharing my experiences.

Yeah, chillers put out an amazing amount of heat. In my last tank, I opened all 4 doors to my cabinet for fresh air, but that HEATED up the whole downstairs like you wouldn't believe!

I ended up punching a hole through the side of our house so I could plumb the chiller to the backyard.

Yeah, thats the other option. my tank backs up to the garage, so I'll just cut a hole small enough for the drop-in portion and place the chiller on a shelf in garage :)

We have a winner

I have to make sure I can remove that portion of the chiller though. If not I have to cut a 4" with the hole saw I borrowed because I need to fit the coil through.

You've got it easy, with your tank backing up to the garage! That's an easy drill! Try drilling through stucco, chicken wire, etc, and praying you don't hit any plumbing and/or electrical :D

I used a hammer drill and still went through a few masonry bits :p

Yes, the location is perfect. I'm very fortunate that it worked out that way :)

It shouldn't be a problem. I just don't want to cut through the wall, because I'll have to patch it back up at some point.....

I hear ya. I had to patch up the hole when we sold the house. Let's say I'm much better at matching drywall texture than exterior stucco. New owners haven't *said* anything to me yet :p
