You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.......

Enough said, go to Japan.

Jim I always loved popping in on your thread to see what you were up to and drool over your new skimmers. But man what a bummer. That is one large decision to make but an easy one in my eyes. I would drop my whole tank tomorrow for my wife and family without hesitation. There will always be a "next" tank, not so easy finding a soul mate. Good luck with your future decision. I know what you will choose and you will be missed here on RC.

Chris, shoot me a PM anytime bud :) I'll be around all weekend

Davey, I thought about that, but in all seriousness, I have NO idea when I'll return. Could be 1 year, could be never. See, my fiance's parents have offered to give us their home in Tokyo. Its a 3 story home in the middle of the city. It would be the equivalent to inheriting 2500 SQFT home in Manhattan. How I could find the brass to pass something like that up is beyond me.....

Tony, nice quote  Yeah, its all about livin right!

JR, thanks for the kind words. My goal here was to buy as much equipment as I could before we were married. That way, I'd have most everything I wanted, and could basically just focus on stocking. I'm just gonna have to do it all over again someday.

sounds like Jim is going to to Japan, :(
you will be missed aroung here

the hobby will always be here when you return, and from the sounds of it you have plenty of room for a nano tank over in Japan.

No way I'd choose a fish tank over living in Japan with the girl I loved. Rebuild your tank when you get back. The build and subsequent stocking is the best part anyway. Good luck man!

Bro - Japan for sure...family always comes first!...why I haven't been on RC much lately....get home from a long day at work, and been trying to spend some quality time with my wife.

Best of Luck with your decision

BTW, to the Sacto boyz!

Whats up T-Bone. Missed you around here! I thought you did all your RCing while at work:)

Jim, What is the timeframe of departure, I gotta come and check out your system, soon.

Of course you miss me...

BK > ATB

Davey - hard to surf RC when I've been commuting between SAC and the Bay Area the past few months!

Wow!!! A rare tbone sighting!!!

Hey bud :) Thanks man. Maybe you and the Mrs can come out on one of your many world adventures and Haruko and I can entertain you Tokyo style

Nick, thanks man. The thought of keeping a small reef has crossed my mind, and is always a possibility. The cost of everything from water to electricity to equipment is much higher there. If you keep an sps tank in Tokyo, chances are you're ballin. I expect to take a pretty big pay cut on this move. After all, my skills here in America don't really matter in Japan. I'm definitely going to have to change careers. We'll see though :)

Davey, not really sure on that. Life's been pretty hectic the last few days. Lets say anywhere from now until spring. The tanks at least moving though by October because my roommate just bought a house. I don't think I have enough time to break it down completely and sell it before then so I may just move it. You gotta understand, I'm really caught in a bunch different things right now. Not to mention work is getting crazy busy..... Everyone's coming back from vacation and its business time.

Gimme a holler anytime though. I'm around.

you could probably sell off most stuff, Livestock being the only issue. but most of you stuff is really nice and should not be a problem. Put up a FS thread.

Let me know if you need a hand with anything

Exactly. The livestock will have to go first, and that will be a problem.

The other problem that I will run into is actually getting what I will be asking for the equipment and livestock. For the first week or so I will get bombarded with ridiculous offers. It will be very difficult to find someone serious enough to pay me what this stuff is worth and what I will be asking :(

If the woman you are with is truly 'the one' and the love of your life, and you are committed about your future together, I would pick a few years in Japan over keeping my dream tank intact.

I couldn't agree more!! But with that said I have a lot of friends that revolved there life around what there spouse wanted rather then what they BOTH wanted and it never works out in the end.

Family is far more important then a hobby and can make you much happier.

As said before follow your heart and the rest will work itself out. Never do something just because it's "do it or leave" do it cause you really want to!

Peace and good luck in your new venture!!

Congrats, Jim! What an amazing opportunity. You're very lucky. I have a feeling coming back here would be an even harder decision for you.

Best wishes to you and your bride-to-be;)

Karl

Do it Jim! Go with your woman. RC can be surfed from any location. Besides the next tank will always be better. Congrats bro!

Thanks so much guys :) Man, this is really tough.

Got some stuff to take care of though, but I'll be back :)

Jim

Just think how many new toys the hobby will have by the time you get back in?

No room for an Elos setup? A nano with an E-power over the top? You know...toys...
