Jo Jos Aquarium

Wag More; Bark Less
kevin95695 did a recon of jo jo's today. first time in the store - impressed. andy and jeffery were very helpful and polite. the store was very clean, and there were two tanks of corals. the prices were right also. definately a regular place to hit during those weekend fish store run frenzy's. check them out:

Yup.

Mike's day off -- Apparently he's the reefer. But talk about service: Jeffery called Mike for a few 'tech support' questions for us to make sure we were properly serviced. Nicely done.

I found the corals and fish at this store to be in very sad shape and the knowledge of the employees to be none. They sell a lot of cheap equipment made in China which is why the prices are cheap. The fish had ich when I was there and looked like they were on their death bed. The inverts were decently priced but other than that they fall way short of the nice shops in the area. I just want to give people a head's up if they are trying to decide where to shop when coming from out of townbecause it is also a ways out and IMO not at all worth the drive.

True: Not a 'destination' shop. But our logic was to swing by since it's so close to Exotic anyway. Corals were a mixed bag. Some nice, some not so nice. But if you know what you're doing and keep your eyes open you might find something.

Keep in mind this place is fairly new on the marine side and they are still in the set up phase. The people have always been helpful to me in the sense that I am new to reefing and instead of just making a sale told me not to buy some of the stuff.

If you are on that side of town, you might as well go have a look. See for your self if you want to go back or not.

corals and fish at this store to be in very sad shape

everything was healthy and thriving

knowledge of the employees to be none

andy and jeffrey were totally honest about that. they are fresh water guys, but when jefferery didn't know, he picked up his cell phone and called the salt water guy for the answers. knowledge isn't everything - but honesty is

equipment made in China which is why the prices are cheap.

i looked. pretty much the same stock as any other fish store. i've been looking for one of those long kent feeders - $26.99 at Exotic, $23.99 at JoJos, $21.99 at Fish Planet. picked up some kent part a, part b - $8.69 at JoJos, $7.99 at Exotic. those are just a couple things i've looked at recently.

fish had ich when I was there and looked like they were on their death bed

everything was healthy. i can't recall being in any fish store to date where i haven't seen a dying or dead fish.

they fall way short of the nice shops in the area.

that's subjective. not as big as others, but carried nice pieces and the customer service was good and this is the cleanest store i've been in in a while. first impressions - wow!

I just want to give people a head's up if they are trying to decide where to shop when coming from out of town because

not trying to steer out of towners in. just letting fellow local reefers know this place is there and worth a look see.

it is also a ways out

about 3 miles from exotic on the other side of 99. lots of folks go to exotic - is it really that far out of the way?

that said, everyone will have their own opinions and i wouldn't attempt to persuade yours. but i wouldn't have posted this thread if this were a dive.

We all have our favorite shops and we are partial to our own opinions. I remember when another shop opened not too long ago. I still believe their prices are overpriced for an already marked up industry, but people love them and their service. This is coming from an avid collector that is not afraid to drop a bill on a small 1" piece of a color stick.

I hear drug dealers give you their stuff until you're hooked... Then you pay. Maybe that's how the LFS suck us in... "Cheap prices, we're new."

Non addicts don't sit around wondering if they aren't addicts:spin1:

made in china?

made in china?

everything is made in china nowadays..come on even your cell phone is made from china...it doesnt mean its not made in the US its not good....i think we need to open our horizon more...
about the addicts....dont say that because its making me feel at home....and relax that there are lots of us..hahahha

They sell A LOT of Odyssea brand equipment. The stuff is junk as shown on countless threadson RC. If the stuff was made in Roseville it would still be crap. The fish DEFINITELY had ich when I was there. KMP must be a part owner or be getting a BIG discount for the plug :D

As for saying everything was healthy and thriving.... that was not at all the case when I was there. We all have our favorites but that shop leaves a lot to be desired compared to ANY of the marine stores in the area....except fior maybe Fish Planet

I thought the store was clean and although lacking in marine selection, it had a lot of potential, since the frag tank setups were pretty nice. And if you're into discus, man this store is the best place I've seen for healthy large discus. It made me want to go FW again. I actually went to to check out the dendros and duncans they had. Pretty good prices on those I thought. 3 heads for $120.

Maybe I will check them out again some time. Xia knows his stuff. The fish were sick and corals looked bad when I was there but because of that I never went back. As for FW... that is comparing dial up to high speed internet :)

I know when I was there... everything (fish wise) look healthy. They didn't have very many marine fish, but still I didn't see floaters, or ich or any other signs of poor health. As far as the corals and frags... I am not very knowing, but it all looked pretty good.

Am I an addict :fish2: Is that bad?
