Joculators

Well, my yellow is a POS, and gives everything a hard time, but everyone else ignored him. My tangs are surprisingly docile (except for that a-hole yellow).

I have an achilles and a dussumier. The achilles has to be the meanest fish on the reef :(

Hey Mark, I got your PM so I figured I'd respond here in the thread... You could read my thread about my wild tiny trio I received last year here...
Here's the shot of them from last year...

Along with the captive raised male joculator I received from Frank at RCT, the harem is now spawning nightly... Here's a horrible shot of the male captive raised nuzzling one of the females... the female happens to be the specimen who lost her eye in QT last year. She has adapted well with the one eye, and interestingly, as she does the spawning dance, her good eye always faces the male as much as she could help it... :)

I know both the one collector/exporter of the fish, and the one importer/wholesaler of the fish, and there is a reason these guys have a great record in captivity. The fish is innately a hardy fish, and this is aided by its proper collection and transport. As has been listed, its "reef safeness" is generally pretty good. Although as Stacie could attest to, it is tough to keep any angel, even a dwarf, with those giant collections of one and two polyp tasty micros and acans! :D All of mine leave alone my sps and clams...

Another positive about this fishery is that the collector takes the extra effort and time to get juveniles at depth, making pairing and harem forming that much easier. Mine have grown like roots and have gone from ~3/4" to spawning adults in less than a year...

Yet another positive is that these angels do fine in temps in the 80s... many "rare angels" require cool water in the low to mid 70s due to the fact that they are either subtropical (like interrupta), or deep (like boylei).

Hope that helps! :)

John

Thanks John. I always enjoy your pictures and your threads.

I always knew I wanted a joculator, so I have stayed away from micros and acans. Luckily, I only have a few favias as well.

John, do you have any zoanthids? I have started moving them out already just in case.

Congrats again Mark...

Answering your question... I don't have zoos in with the jocs but I wouldn't foresee any major issues...

Mine is an excellent citizen. Eats mysis, Rod's flake, pellets, whatever goes in the tank. Mildly aggressive towards C. multicolor at feeding time.

It's right around 1.5" and it's eating pe mysis and brine shrimp in the specimen container so far.
