Joe's 190g 60x36x20 SLOW Mixed Reef Build.......

I don't know anything about octos, so I can't compare the 2. I do like ER's though, and since your budget is up to $500, thought I'd throw that in there. New RS250 is $480 online.

tbone - I think the ER and Octo are both good skimmers. I haven't personally used either. The ER design is a couple years old, and the Octo Pro incorporates a couple new features that I think make it the better choice. It has a bubble plate and uses a Laguna-style pump which is similar to the red dragon's used by BK. (Actually it looks very similar to the BK internals, and supposedly is performing similarly as well) That is why I'm recommending the Octo Pro over the ER, since they are essentially the same price.

if that's the case, it sounds like Octo is the way to go. I have not even looked at a single detail about the Octos. LOL. I don't even know who manufacturers them! :D How is reliability and customer service on those?

They are manufactured by Coralvue, cant really speak personally for their customer support, but thats a pretty big reputable US company (read - big price advantage of not getting hammered by the exchange rate).

ER is supposed to be releasing a cone skimmer soon, I'm curioius about how it will perform.

Ah, very similar looking. Kinda like how ASM is similar to ER, and BM similar to BK. I've seen pics of that conical ER. I'm also curious on how that performs. The body on it looks so short, though.

Classic case of capitalism with companies copying the innovators. Whatever the view of whether this is "right", it means good things for consumers.

terry got served ;)

Theres a guy selling a bubble master 200 for $400. That seems like a good deal If you ask me lol.

Im not necessarily looking at bubble masters... Im looking at bargains! lol. If I can find something good on our classifieds, I will buy it. If I gotta buy new, I will buy the octo pro 250. Thats my final decision, and its been that lol. It just depends on what comes up for sale. Now I just gotta get my paypal situated so I can start paying for these things! lol.

I'm just giving you a hard time. I changed my mind 80x on every aspect of a build. There is never a perfect solution so sometimes you just gotta make a decision and roll with it....

and for the record, I Wasnt spending $700 more just on a skimmer lol. That just means I can do EVERYTHING a little nicer. Like maybe the 6101s and wavebox, rather than 6080s. eheim instead of mag return. Nicer bulbs, nicer plumbing. And maybe even save it for some live stock. I dont see spending more than $600 on a skimmer. That just seems crazy lol
