Joe's 190g 60x36x20 SLOW Mixed Reef Build.......

tbone he will need that middle brace, although you will lack of space getting inside to do any work. just do some more research on CL and powerheads to make final decision. if this was me i will go all tunzes

just notice that your acrylic is 1", so ignore everythin I said about vortechs :) (dont work on over 3/4")

Go with 2 Tunzes, look around on the used selling forum and I bet you can get some their for 600-700 for both w/ controller. So you are only talking a couple hundred bucks difference. You can always add a CL later, and can add another Tunze or two as your system grows out.

btw, like how the aquascape is looking. kinda similar to invincible569's, which I love.

fyi you could get the 2 6101s and a multicontroller for 890 new at reef specialty's sale, last day is tomorrow.

here are a used set, asking price 700: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1327099

another with single 6100 asking 260: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1327529

I haven't used Vortechs, so can't comment on those, but I LOVE my Tunzes. Don't think you can go wrong there! :)

The shopping list looks pretty good. Any reason you are going with the reef optix over lumenarcs or lumenbrights?

Also, do you have the g4 already? If not Id definitely look into the octo pro 250 for the skimmer.

I actually wont be going with the reef optics. I will be getting the Lumenarc IIIs. That list was to help me total my cost initially, and they are the same price, give or take $10-$20. I dont have ANY of the equipment I'll be using on my new tank, except for the Tunze 6045s, which I already have.

As for that octopus, I dont see spending $520 for a skimmer rated up to 250g. Especially when that ASM G4+ is rated up to around 400 gallons, and is about $100 cheaper.

Ive also heard good things about ASM. I know a ouple people who have had ASMs and ERs, and they say theyre pretty comparable. The only difference is ER uses higher quality acrylic.

Im not trying to go CHEAP by any means. But I do have to budget myself here a bit. Since Im going a little more expensive on my flow than I initially thought, I will be content with the G4+ I think.

You guys have really been great help with the flow debate, along with TRT. I appreciate it.

Now my selected bulbs are the SE 12k megachrome. To be honest, the only reason why I selected these bulbs, are the color. My 10ks are TOO white, my corals dont pop. But 14ks are too blue IMO. The 12k with my 2 daylight T5s and 2 actinic (which look around 12-15k combined IMO), should give me a good white color, with a blue hue.

Have any of you fellas used maybe a different bulb, different Kelvin, thats maybe a bluer 10k or a whiter 14k? If youre wondering, I am going with the (2) daylight T5s and (2) actinic T5s, so my tank looks lit most of the day, even though the MH are only on around 8 hours. I was that tank lit up the whole 12-14 hours.

the most kick *** option would be going with a BM 250 that is up for sale on the used equipment forum for $550 shipped, Id pounce on this.
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1333167

I would also make a post on the equipment forum, there are a bunch of folks there that buy and test all the newest skimmers, and can definitely steer you towards the best bang for your buck. I have a hunch it wont be ASM ;) From what I've read on that forum, it seems that ASMs are now actually regarded as way overpriced. Good when they came out, but now there are better designs (like the Octo) in the same price range. You cant go by the ratings as the ASMs are waaaaaaaay overrated. My personal experience, I had a G2 rated for 200 on my 125 and it was not nearly enough. FWIW, I think the octopus is just more accurately rated and would be a much better choice (if you cant land that BM 250).

Oh and couple more thing to save you cash, think I posted this on the other board, but just in case you missed it, call reef specialty today and you can get 10% (basically $100) off that price you listed for the Tunze kit. sale ends today.

Also, I would not spend the cash for the spectra pure RO/DI. I think you can get a better unit for less (mine was 180 shipped) from airwaterice or filter guys.

I guess I'll just have to search the classifieds when its time to purchase. It'll be hopefully within the next month when I get the pumps, skimmer, and sump set up.

ah didnt realize you were waiting to purchase....does this mean we have to wait to see updates?? ;)

Yes. As far as equipment goes lol. I have it budgeted to where I can spend $450 a month, plus whatever my monthly commission is. So this is going to take a little while lol.

Since Im going Tunze, this weekend I may coat the back of my tank with aquarium foam and some cement. So there will be some DIY updates, along with light racks and what not.

I was looking at my lighting list. I didnt realized the retros totalled $1100 for the two 250w MHs and the four 54w T5s, with ballasts. Im considering just getting a nice fixture, maybe a simple Geisemann fixture, which is only $100 more. That way I dont have to contstruct a top to the tank, and can have the open look.

I'd say it depends on what type of light coverage you want and how you scape your rock.

I'm not sure what the spread on that fixture is like on the ends, so not sure if the sides of your tank will be darker. Some people like darker areas though.

Tough one. Its $100 more, and it gives 2 less T5 lights. Maybe the best bet would be the retro kit I planned on doing. Those geisemans just look so sexy though lol.

$959 at salty supply for the Geisemann... I think that'll be enough light.

http://www.saltysupply.com/product-p/gl1241.htm

I think that may be the route I go. I can live with the swimming lanes on the side of the tank not as lit up. Assuming the light doesnt spread AT ALL, its only 6" on each side. Im pretty sure it should spread at least a couple inches.

With the saved money from the retros, and by getting it on sale at saltysupply, I can get a better skimmer!
