Joe's 190g 60x36x20 SLOW Mixed Reef Build.......

Put em in a FO tank. I am making my 60g tank a tank just for a porcupine puffer and maybe one buddy for him. Maybe a Flame Angel =)

If I cut that acrylic brace out, will this tank give?

Will the brace still be in direct path of the halides on your G-fixture?

Also, with your canyon aquascape, it seems like there's not rockwork underneath the brace.

No, there wont be rock work under the brace. And the g fixture wont hav ea halide over the brace. I guess it just doesnt look all that good. So kinda pointless ot wanna get rid of it =\

I didnt even think about this, but with that Giesemann fixture, I was hoping for a real sleek and clean look. Its not going to look that clean dangling from a rigged support incorporated with the tank. And also, with a power cord hanging down the back of it and the tank! =(

So many different elements are getting involved with this stupid tank lol. With my 60g, it was plug and play.

And also, after my 60g turning to crap when I put the sand in there. Im going BB with this tank. Im going to flip that tank upside down, and either epoxy on some sand on the outside bottom, or use the plastikote stone touch, that looks like sand. Ive just had enough with the problems the sand has caused me. I'll put the rocks on rock racks though, just incase I do eventually ever want a real SSB.

Welcome to building a big tank :) Still you are progressing way quicker than I am...

Maybe MENTALLY progressing. I gotta get the rest ($$$$$) in order lol. Your tank will be terrific when its up. I was thinking of doing a type of bar setting, or having the tank in the TV room, with some sort of couch/chase type setting in front of it. So many options. I guess we'll just see what happens when it happens. A lot will depend on what house we get in Fresno, along with the space.

How much does a wavemaker account for? I love the way the Tunze wavemakers flow looks. Theres no real GPH noted on them, but they do move quite a bit it seems like. Would a Tunze wavebox be able to erase the need for 4 6101s? It seems like a wavebox and an extension would be enough flow, teamed up with my 6045s. Maybe thats just me trying to be cheap though.

I think the wavemaker is the same as one 6101 but dont quote me on that. Do you have 2 or 4 modded 6045s? Really I think you will be more than fine with 2 6101s on a controller and 2 6045s for some time. As your sps get bigger, your flow needs will increase because youll have a bigger underside that is shaded and the flow will need to get through all the branches to get to the branches in the middles of colonies. That wont happen for a while tho, so Id just get the 2 6101s right now, and spend the cash to get the best skimmer you can.

sounds fair enough. I probably wont have large colonies for a LONG time lol. Rachels going in for surgery two fridays from now, so we'll be down a good $8k after the surgery and equipment lol. So I'll have to add a piece or a colony a month for a while.

wishing her the best with the surgery.

best wishes with the surgery as well.

one good thing with adding only one colony a month is that you can hold out for the really go stuff and not be tempted by other corals along the way as so often happens.

The surgery isnt anything serious, cosmetic stuff from after her accident last year. So hopefully all goes well. Thanks for the well wishes though.

And youre righ Thirsch, Maybe I wont get those softies and LPS that always draw me in when I go to the LFS! I'll go with the mission of obtaining SPS colonies and tangs lol.

double post.

I am curious how Im going to set up these powerheads where you cant see any ugly cables running through the aquarium. or along the top of the aquarium.

So Ive changed my mind AGAIN lol. Im going to stay with the Giesemanns, like I planned. But the flow is changing.

I was going to go with the Tunze TS24 with the two 6101s and a multi controller. But I figured how often would I actually control the flow on those? I more than likely would just have them cranked up, I mean I AM paying for the flow, why not use it all? So instead of using the TS24 which is 6,340 GPH (combined) and $978, I will be using two 6201s which are 10,566 GPH (combined) and $1010. If/when the time comes, I will just splurge the $200 and buy the multi controller. For now I think its worth the extra $32, for the extra 4,000+ GPH.

I wont ever have to worry about these not being strong enough for my tank, Especially teamed up with my 6045s. Also I will eventually get a wavebox, so I may not ever need to buy the controller for these guys, since I would imagine they will always be cranked to the max.

You should still get the 7095. One of the important things about flow is "random" flow! There's a few 7095's for sale right now in the Classified section.

Good move on the 6201. If you don't need all that flow early on, you can dial it down with the multicontroller

I like the idea of two 6201s, way more flow in the same amount of space. I agree tho that you will want to have them on a controller, otherwise they will blow the polyps off anything in their path! :)

One cool option to look at if you want them full blast is to hook them up to a pair of wavy seas attached through your eurobracing so they are always rotating. This would also make help hold the wires and make everything look very clean.
