Joe's 190g 60x36x20 SLOW Mixed Reef Build.......

Thatd be better than the ASM G4+?

Also, it worries me that salty supply wont carry Giesemann anymore due to their customer service. Though Ive never heard any big problems with Giesemann.

and I just noticed that skimmer was $800+. No thanks lol. I may be buying Tbones ER hes upgrading from. Not sure though, since my tanks a little bigger. and if its not good for his tank, probably wont be for mine lol.

The ER's rated for 250g with "moderate bioload" and 180g with "heavy bioload". The comparative rating is 550 gallons.

I can email pics if you'd like, or you can check out my thread in our local forum (BAR). I'm upgrading not cuz my ER doesn't work well for me. I just have the itch to try a "big-boy" skimmer. LOL :D I've used only ER's the past 7 years. I think I deserve a treat now :)

I plan on having a heavy bio load though =\

so I dont know if that'll end up being right. But we will see. It depends on how this budget ends up looking, and if I dont spring for that octo pro 250.

I need to find a median here lol. I dont wanna spend more than $500 on a new skimmer. Thats also assuming that I will get the Giesemann fixture while its on sale. If not, all bets may be off lol.

Im assuming I'll have a heavy bioload with probably a few tangs, a pair of clowns, maybe a school of chromis, and my GF likes the 6 lines.

Ive now turned my build thread into my ramble thread =\

I wouldn't call that a heavy load. Well, it depends on what "a few tangs" means, how many and which ones? Bioload is also determined by how much you actually feed your fish.

My last tank: just the tang collection: yellow, purple, blue, powder blue, achilles, sohal, vlamingi, dussemeri I fed 10 cubes of frozen food along with spectrum pellets and seaweed

You can ramble over on my "build thread". We only need one ramble thread on RC :D

I planned on Powder blue, Blonde Naso,Sohal, Unicorn/vlamingi, I already have a yellow tang, and maybe a Powder Brown. So I guess thats not as many as you had lol.

You fed 10 cubes a day? Thats tons if so.

yeah, my old group of tangs were pigs. I used to buy the formula one and spirulina cubes in those 2# bags!

I had an undersized Euroreef CS8-2 on my 240g, and my fish kept the nog nice and dark!

Lol. Thats so much food, jees. I need to hurry and get some actual funds before the Giesemann fixture goes off sale.

Since youre active on my thread right now. Think that'll be enough light over the duration? I dont want to end up having to upgrade my lighting. Only 2 T5s kinda scares me.

My other option is making a hanging wood frame to hang above the tank, with retro fits in it. That way I have a sort of canopy to hide the retros, along with that open look I love.

1) 2 250w Halide retro with 4 54w T5s
2) 2 250w Halide w/ 2 54w T5 Giesemann figure

Im leaning towards the sexiness of the Giesemann. I could probably just leave the fixture on a little longer during the day.

Giesemann, Tunze, ER or Octopus. The laundry list is sounding quality!

How much SPS do you plan on stocking? Personally, I'd go with 3 halides over a 6' tank, but I like SPS. If you're going to stock less light-hungry coral, it should work out

5' tank. And I plan on mainly keeping SPS when I have money to get coral (which will be 10 years after this build lol). I thought about 3 250w halides. but that center brace on my tank is huge! Itd juts block the halides I think.

my bad. the 2 halides should do it. Kinda in an inbetween size. I like 2 halides for 4' and 3 halides for 6'. But you make a good point with that brace. Go with the G-fixture ;)

Yeah, kinda a weird size. Usually its 48 or 72. 60 is kinda weird, but it was cheap, and it goes back deep, so I took it lol. I think I'll take the G-fixture assuming I can still find it cheap when I have funding.

Thanks for the input.

tbone he will need that middle brace, although you will lack of space getting inside to do any work. just do some more research on CL and powerheads to make final decision. if this was me i will go all tunzes

So no cutting of this brace? Id really like to get it out of the way.

What about angels? ;) I've been bitten by the angel bug and am dreaming of an imperator, regal and majestic all swimming around together. its risky, but with high risk can come great reward :)

Im actually not too big of a fan of Angels. I love tangs, and any fish that doesnt swim a lot. Like a Goby or Blenny.

that is likely a good thing...I have a feeling my angel urge is going to create some problems, but I gotta try it out :)
