joe's juice is a joke

i had 2 aiptasia growing on a coral that i bought, i figured, np, i'll let them get bigger so i can kill them easier

i let them grow to about a half inch in length(3-4 months) when i busted out the joe's juice. i inject those suckers right in the mouth. wooohooo i could see them withering away right before my eyes.

.....next morning SIX little aiptasias all over the place :eek2:

ok np, must have been a glitch in the matrix, i blasted all 6 of them with joe's juice. phew threat gone for sure :bum:

next morning.....baby aiptasia ALL OVER THE TANK :mad2:

now what?

here is my crappy tank.....yea its dirty

when you have lot of organic matter floating around its like a rocket fuel for them..

thats small aquarium so you should be able to deal with them with ease.. everywhere is reachable with hand to spray them, but if you feed corals with snow or some other coral food garbage they'll just keep on poping up... or you can do more radically.. lose the rocks and get some clean if you decide to do so look in the overflow and plumbing too.. best way to deal with it is to run it with 6-7 hours on FW.. be sure to check corals for them as well....

what do you mean spray them? everytime i nail these little craps with joe's juice they MULTIPLY!

i hear there is a shrimp that eats aiptasia?

p.s - no way in HELL am i going to lose the rocks. i have corals and stuff :p

Peppermint shrimp will eat aiptasia. However, that dottyback might eat the shrimp first.

seriously?

the dotty is pretty small, maybe an inch

i can just get a monster peppermint shrimp heh :o

well listen, if the shrimp can take care of my aiptasia before this innocent looking dottyback eats him, well...what can i say....it's a vicious cycle

Don't copperband butterflys eat aptasias?
Ken

I don't think a copperbanded buttefly would fit in that tank. I would suggest to z32tt that he inject the aiptasia with boiling water or pepper juice.

aptaisias arent spread by joes juice

i think so, because i let 2 aiptasia sit for 3 months, they did not multiply at all

after using joe's juice, literally the next day they multiplied. funny coincidence huh

What happens is not that the joe's juice directly causes them to multiply, but rather not all the tissue was destroyed when it was used. Any little bits of tissue left behind will regenerate into a full blow aiptasia. As annoying as they are, they real are a marvel of nature when you consider their regenerative ability.

you need to use a CLACBOMB.... just get a plastic syringe and fill it with Clacwasser powder and hot water....make it a pasty consistancy. sneek up on them and shoot. kills 100% and provides 100% satisfaction.... let me know how it goes.

...the part where you said 'ill let them grow' was where i really stopped paying attention.

work this logic through...if not completely killing them leaves bits of tissue that regenerate, and he couldn't kill them with joe's juice, i imagine he'll let these get bigger, then kill 99% of each one with calcium paste. start round four.

admittedly i'm newer and less knowledgable about this than anyone else on this forum, but it seems if you dont maintain your water, either by overfeeding or overcrowding or undercleaning, you will just perpetuate bad water problems. like aiptasia.

so somewhere between leaving them for 4 months and having an admittedly crappy tank, i'm sure there is an easy solution.

has anyone ever vacuumed out these tiny baby aiptasia that he must have now that they have been attacked twice? ofc buried in rock they wont come out, but surely some of these must be on glass or in sand.

how big is that tank, and what are the water regimens?

BTW, beauty of a an rbta and clown pair. what kind of lights do you have?

the crappy part was sarcasm, thanks for playing.

and my water params are perfect.

it must not come across well in print, but there wasnt any sarcasm in there.

i AM new

water quality IS key

'PERFECT' seems to be pretty subjective, where 8.5, 1.026, etc are pretty objective.

perfect: 2 aiptasia for 4 months, 'here is my crappy tank..yea its dirty', six aiptaisa, baby aiptasia all over the tank, hair algae.
(NB: notice i'm not posting any pics of my tank with the @#$#$ aiptasia that wont die under the front of the cave, the diatoms that (WHY WHY WHY) wont go away in the front left corner when the rest of the tank is spotless, etc)

so what kind of lights do you have, how long have you had that rbta and do the 'bubbled' tentacles stay that way, or does he have a few that come and go?

Hey z32tt, I have a 91'z32 2+2....They r awesome. I had a z31 before for 20 years @ 273k and still going.....ANYWAY, I am having the same aptasia problem with mojanos. Ive tried boiling water but they come back after 3 days. I've stried smashing them but they come back in a day....I was gonna try joes juice, but thanks to ur experience i will just skip that method and go straight for calcium paste. I put in a pepermint shrimp about 3 days ago but it is still getting acclimated and just started eating the fish food. I hope it goes for aptasia soon.

The thing is that alot of people don't use joe's juice correctly.
I saw a rep at an LFS show how to do it.
Inject apt w/ hypo, wait about 30-60 seconds w/ hypo still inserted, the apt will start to release, then use the hypo to suck the apt out.

i have never had an issue with joes juice... works for me when i need it... which is very rarely. It almost sounds like your jabbing the aptasia with the hypo and breaking it into peices.

I just get near it and spray some on it.
