July meeting

Reef Bass

colors and textures
This month's meeting will be starting off the summer season with an awesome bbq pool party on Saturday, July 10 at noon at Grant's house in Petaluma. Grant will be q'ing up some of his tasty marinated pork tenderloin. For those of you who haven't seen his tank, you will find it a very good looking blend of soft and hard corals. So bring your bathing suits and either a dish or beverages to share or $10 to reimburse Grant for his expenses.

Please rsvp to this thread so we can get an idea of how much food will be coming and how much needs to be purchased. PM Grant for address.

I look forward to seeing everyone there!

I love the BBQ parties... and I'd love to see Grant's tank... but, alas - it is publishing weekend for me AND my wife is working both Saturday and Sunday (so there is no way I could fit squeeze the meeting in this time around). Have fun though!

PS now that it's been growing for awhile and has some color to it, I'm hoping to post some shots of my tank one of these days... stay tuned!

Race weekend again. Timing w/ reef club sucks!
Everyone should come out on the 31st of July/01Aug at Sear's Point for the AFM races. It is only $10 for the weekend and I should be able to provide 2 for 1 coupons. I have been doing pretty good for a FNG. Exciting stuff for those inclined.

Well,
Right now I am working but I am trying to get them to change my schedule. I am trying to get away early but I will keep you posted. I have been having some reef meeting withdrawal symptoms lately.

p.s. Rob is that you #814!

I won't be able to make it. I am going camping over the weekend in the sierras.

Can someone take over for the frag swap??

Thanks!!!

Went to my first meeting last month, and I am tentative for this Saturday. I believe Bob (?) gave me a gift certificate to Green Marine. Well I got two frags and will donate back to the club for the monthly raffle. They are a baby blue with green polyp cyphastrea and an acro (aqua delight?), but were recently stung by my chalice. Both are healing but we'll see if they're presentable for Saturday or just wait and bring them next month. I'll bring some frags and some red grape macro Botryocladia sp. (add some color to your sumps!)

Hey Mike.

Do not bring those tiny frags to the next meeting. Please grow them out so they are at least double their current size then frag a piece to donate back to the club.

What was your impression of Green Marine?

I will be there for a couple hours. I got the bosses to let me come in to work @3. No frags for me as I have the darn Nudis. Luckily for me it is in both tanks.:) The foam has only two small Montis in that tank. The main tank will probably be a long slow death of stuff. Oh well I guess it will be paly and zoo colecting for me for awhile. Maybe my canary Wrasse will be my hero, but with everything I read probably not. Well at least it is a natural thing. I tried to take a couple photos last night to let anybody who hasn't seen the get a look but they are small. I will post them later.

Ok. Will grow the frags out.

Green Marine is primarily a SPS shop. All the frags are $10 + $1 tax = $11. All corals are captive raised and they have ORA fish...ocellaris, banggai, blennies, at reasonable prices. The shop is very clean and sleek. It has a simplistic and modern feel. I think there are about 10-12 tanks in the shop. 5-6 on each side. Running MH's. Each tank is its own system with a sump and skimmer. None of the tanks are connected to each other. Frags are mounted on small acrylic rods. Jim is very nice to talk to and with a wealth of knowledge.

For me, I would just buy here for SPS and not deal with buying online due to shipping, unless it was something very specific. If I were to upgrade my tank and add more fish, I would get them at Green Marine. The fish were healthy and primarily because I lean toward ORA fish and corals.

I try to get to this shop whenever I am in the area.
