Well I have been harrassed about my first venture into the nano world and told
to post some pictures of it and my "build"
A few have seen my little treasure chest and I have just now gotten to
the point that I am really happy with how it is developing and will now
leave it a lone and let it grow in.. The little 5.5 Fun$pit listed for sale, Daves little Pico and the 10
gallon that Ryan and Carlos have put togather has spurred me
to go ahead and post my "build" and where I started and where it is at this point.
First I want to thank my wonderful wife for putting up with me and this hobby and
when I first proposed adding this tank and putting in the Bedroom that she thought
that was a good idea. Also the members of this club, specifically:
Dave at Kermits for introducing me to the club, and giving me the guidance and
inspiration of his ideas and helping me getting started out on this path.
Scott Perry (past club president) for seeing his nano set ups at his house when he hosted a club
meeting and realizing that maybe I could satisfymy "need to add more" without having to
buy a new house to go bigger.
Every person on RC and in this club has given me ideas, and inspiration, and the encouragement
to stay in this hobby through the ups and downs and to help me show it and enjoy it even more
by sharing some of it in the pages of this forum.
And last but certainly not least for my daughter Amber (who has worked the last several summers as
a missionary in El Salvador and is currently planning to work in the Mission field in El Salvador
and Costa Rico as soon as she graduates from MTSU) brought me some of her spark and enthusiasm and inspiration
back with her from El Salvador this past summer.
Every project needs inspiration and my start on this was the culmination of several things.
I had seen what some places sell as "treasure chest style" cabinets for aquariums and in
"cruising the nano section of RC I have seen many different builds from "standard size"
store bought aquariums.
I initially planned this build around a 10 gallon standard, but hesitated as it did not
fit exactly right for the spot on the chest I wanted to put it.
Then one of the folks that I work with brought in a little 5.5 he found in his attic and
gave it to me at the office and said he knew that I was "into aquariums" and maybe I could
use it in some way.
That is all I needed and my plan for my All in one (almost)," Very low cost "Treasure chest El Salvador Nano"
was born.
I also intend to do a "quick build" of this nano in a 10 gallon version and then raffle it off at the meeting
on June the 27th when Robin and I host the June meeting here in Olive Branch.
It is built to be viewed from the front only. The photos that I am posting today are just a few "teasers". I hope some
people interested in a very "cheap" easy DIY build will see this and come to the meeting and see how I put it togather.
I did not want to post or really share this untill I truly felt it was somewhat established, and since it has been
running now for 9 months. Here are just a couple of photos.
This is truly a low cost way to get into the Saltwater reefing hobby and I hope some new folks will
come to the meeting. More news to follow!!
