June NARC meeting

I know this is early, but my June is shaping up to be one exciting moment after another, so I need to start planning the June meeting at my house in Hartselle now.

At this point, the only days available are June 23rd and 24th and June 30th. I assume many folks wouldn't want to meet on a Sunday and the 30th is awfully late in the month, so does Saturday June 23rd sounds good?

For food, I suggest BBQ and I will provide all the food if ya'll will provide beverages. Marinated chicken and burgers okay?

Since I have a life-threatening food allergy to onions and everything in the onion family (save garlic... and not every "garlic" is garlic), please do not bring anything you expect to cook, heat up or touch anything I own that isn't disposable. Onions are not always on the labels of foods and are in more things than you would imagine.

Seriously, I'd rather not include a trip to the hospital as part of the June meeting, okay? You know all those stories you hear about kids dying of eating something that once touched peanut butter? It's like that. So let me just provide the food, okay?

Okay, onion lecture over.

For a presentation, does anyone have any votes for:
-Moving with a reef tank (my cross-country trek in a blizzard)
-Raising clownfish
-Pairing & Raising C. cinctus (yellow watchman gobies)
-Rotifer culturing

Folding chairs would be helpful, but I am probably good for tables, pending a rough head count. There is lots of parking room and a big back porch so rain or shine shouldn't be a problem.

Great! 23rd sounds great. You can count me in.
Any topic is fine with me. I can bring beverages or some desserts if you'd like (no onions for sure).
I suspect that you'll have your floors by then. :)

No, my construction got delayed and will probably be starting about then. We'll just close off that part of the house... I will already have been doing some major rearranging since I will have house guests in the early part of June.

Desserts are generally safe from onions unless it's middle eastern, then all bets are off. :) Bringing dessert would be most welcome!

lol, I will be there. I can bring some drinks also, maybe a dessert too.

Rotifer culturing is something I have been thinking of doing so I would be especially interested in hearing about that, but actually they all sound interesting. In fact, if I have any luck getting two maroon clowns to pair up, I might try raising them.

I'll be there.....J/K

No wonder you always provided the food at your get togethers. Never knew about your allergy.

Have a great meeting and I still miss ya Nicole!!! I have to get some new SCMAS meeting hang out buddies since Leo isnt really active in the reefing community anymore.

So, hop a plane, Julie! The more the merrier. I was just in LA yesterday, but didn't have any time to play.

Nicole -

No particular preference on the topics - they all sound fine to me.
Is there anything you need besides dessert, drinks and paper plates and cups?
I can certainly donate some frags or critters (such as Tiggerpods, rotifers, phyto, etc.) if you'd like.

Tomoko

I keep a very strict QT procedure and am not set up to do so now, so while offers of livestock are much appreciated, please don't. I need to buy a whole new tank setup one of these days and then I'll let my old tank be a QT until I tear it down. Then I'll be begging for microcritters to help me repopulate!

On the other hand, I will have quite a bit of Botryocladia leptopoda if anyone wants some algae. This is non-invasive and pretty, and relatively rare in the hobby but shouldn't be. It does shed old red bubbles from time to time, but they don't stick to anything and regrow. Photo below. Sea Crop used to sell a botryocladia species as "rastafarian algae" or something like that.

If anyone has a 30-40 gallon sumpless set up (hardware only) they'd like to offer to sell me, I'm all ears. :)

Dessert, plates, cups and utensils and drinks will be welcome. Also napkins. I have everything else covered -- it looks like a small crowd.

Tomoko, you've volunteered for a dessert, so I guess everything else if up for grabs.

Botryocladia is really nice. I may ask you for a sprig or two, Nicole.

I used to have some in one of my tanks, but when I added turbo snails to the tank, they ate the algae in a matter of a few minutes.

For the club meeting and if you want to RC post:

I plant to attend the june meeting.

Just a thought if CARC wants a joint meeting, I can provide the diy 3 part which they may not be aware of.

If they want magnesium chloride at ~$18 for 50 pounds I could do a group order with pre payment. (I don't want to be stuck is 300 pound of this stuff. LOL

Calcium chloride is ~$12 for a 50 pound bag.

I also am basically overflowing with chaeto and will have to toss a bunch before the meeting. If anyone is interested you are welcome to what I would toss.
