Our visit to Junior's reef

Thanks Gary for being such a welcoming host when Bethany and I came to see your amazing reef tank. Pictures don't do your tank justice it is definitely a sight to see. Junior is a beautiful fish and looks so much bigger in person.
Thanks again!

Gorgeous as always Gary.
In the second image, I can see some valonia in the center of your ponape birdsnest, yet I dont see it anywhere else in your tank.

What do you have that eats it?
I hate that stuff with a passion and its in my current system.
When I eventually upgrade to a larger system, NONE of the rockwork will transition over strictly because of the valonia that drives me mad....

Nick

good eye, Nick!

All my Tangs and the Angelfish eat Valonia... if they can reach it!

I have a lot of different types of alga in my reef aquarium but if it's exposed to the fish it's eaten.

I have a Tomini tang, a Purple tang, a small Powder Blue tang, the Regal angel, and a small Blue Line angel.....

None of them are REMOTELY interested in eating it.
I wish someone would eat it....or that it was worth something.....

Nick

I have it as well but i just recently added a scopas and orangeshoulder tang but before that i think my urchins would eat it. Because my tank is the same way any algae that is exposed gets eaten. The orangeshoulder tang is a tiny yellow juvenile but he eats bryopsis.

dKH was at 6.4 today AFTER a 50 gallon water change. Who knows how low it was before the change? Limewater, calcium reactor and water changes are clearly not keeping up with demand. Boost of 400mls liquid alk supplement always helps ...temporarily.

You know I love the bubbles! Awesome!

Is your chromis population dwindling at all? I'm considering some new additions to the school aquarium, but haven't decided if chromis should be a part of the plan.

One last question: When is the last time you changed your MH bulbs? Your aquarium has proven to me that bulbs don't need to replaced nearly as often as people think.

I usually run MH lamps until they blow or 2-3 years- whichever happens first.
I've been doing that for over a decade. Lighting always gets blamed for stupid things.
Looks like I'm down to 9 Chromis from 13.
September has always proven to be a good month to take pix of my aquarium for several reasons.

I'm on the "Gary Plan" with bulbs now. I religiously changed them every 9-10 months. This sets been running about 15 months now. I'm sure the color has changed aesthetically and spectrally, but some frags that have been relatively dormant are just starting to take off. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Your tank definitely ain't broke G-spot.

A trip to visit Junior's reef is always a treat. This morning, Gary fed some frozen broccoli and Junior ate a piece the size of my thumb! I'm going to try some on my bunch.

It definitely was a treat to finally see it in person. I cant think of a better way to spend a Sunday. It was good to meet both of you
