Hi, Gary great tank!
I see you like less technology on your tank. I was wondering what you use your ac Jr. Controller for? I've been looking at getting one but have been struggling with putting all my eggs in one basket so to speak. Curious as to how you implement yours. Thanks

Hey! Thanks for kind words.
I use my ac junior to control pH of calcium reactor, the lighting and the heaters.
I have a program that turns off lights if the aquarium gets too warm.
At this point, my controller has become indispensible!

Small adult. So far so good. I have my fingers crossed. My motley crue is behaving way better than expected towards the newcomer.
Thanks to Jason at CF and George at SDC for the help with this one!

as it turns out

as it turns out

I had a Regal.

It lasted a week. My crew of tangs are rough and they didn't allow this one to happen.
Regals are timid and tangs are boisterous. I need to get rid of them bad boy tangs or get an Angel with chutzpah!

I've kept two Regal Angels.
First one lasted a year and I lost it when my Ritteri wandered into a powerhead and shredded the tentacles, releasing nematocysts killing every fish in the tank except the clowns.

The second I just recently lost to an ich outbreak and my bungled treatment response. I'd had it for right at 7 years.

In my experience with both of those angels, Regals are not smart.
They take about a year in captivity to become aggressive feeders and it takes them a couple of months to recognize food items in the aquarium. This was helped along by a lengthy period in QT with dither fish who are non aggressive and non boisterous but are active feeders in the aquarium.

Big, established Tangs that are dominant personalities are not good for bringing in a shy fish like that initially.

Might not be a bad idea to find another Regal, QT it with something like a smaller Tang, (I've used Ctenochaetus tangs for this in the past) or something else that will take Nori off of a clip and feed from the water column....and condition it for several months in a protected environment.

Once the Regal is more acclimated and feeding regularly, the fun begins....

Removing the aggressive tangs from your display.

If you could move the aggressive/dominant tangs to a QT set up for a few months and give the Regal a chance to get acclimated and comfortable in the bigger tank, then you could re-introduce the dominant aggressive tangs to your display.

Just a suggestion.

It's alot of work....but I do miss my Regals....

With a Powder Blue Tang and an Achilles in your tank....
I dont think that's going to happen unless you add an adult Passer Angel, and Lord only knows what that beast would eat.

I hear ya!

But I think another Emperor would be a good fit.

Before anyone gets the wrong impression....
The regal was in QT w copper and eating pellet before being acclimated and introduced.
It just was too damned timid to deal with my established fishes.
I thought about removing my tangs beforehand but I've grown quite fond of everybody.
