Just got my Haddon Carpet

thanks. I've been dosing vinegar for the past month to reduce nitrate. It's been going down weekly. I didn't want to dose too much at first. It was at a good 50ppm last month. 20-30 now..

if needed, I will use tank water to treat and take the chance for a few extra water changes in DT. I've been doing weekly 15% WC. Nitrate won't go down because I over feed the tank. Got a few picky anthias that's a real pita to feed. It's been better now that I dose vinegar and change filter socks frequently.

so I got home and he looks a little more deflated... the mouth opened a little bigger and now expelling large chunks of dark stuff covered in a see thru slime.

it's still very sticky.. semi attached to the rocks.

treatment time? :(

Yes, that is one sick Haddoni. I would consider purchasing Septra in the event that Cipro is not effective. It seems that lately people have had more success treating carpets with Septra.

Good luck.

I wish I had kept a log of when i acclimated mine. I hummed and hawwed over getting one for months, I love nems but dislike the hole getting them comfortable process, its so hit and miss and the feeling frome failure stinks. Anyway, dont get to panicky, mine went through ups and downs for over two weeks. I tried many different places and constantly tries getting it's foot to attach to the bottom glass. Sometimes I'd stand in one spot holding the nem against the glass for almost an hour. After about a week it finally settled into the left side of my aquarium away from full light, its been there ever since so about 5 month's now. So many times I thought for sure i bit off more than I could chew or thought for sure it was going to die but it survived and is doing fantastic, so good in fact that after a good feed of shrimp it at some point yesterday, decided to eat my blood shrimp and my clown fish. I know it ate the shrimp because the proof came out, the clown is speculation but it's gone and the nem wasn't hosting the clowns. I have the mate for the missing clown. Be patient buddy, dont panic. Maybe dig a hole, try holding its foot down and then burying it. Make it feel as comfortable as u can with a gentle patient touch. They are tougher than people give em credit for.

thanks! but should I be moving it myself? I figured i should either treat, or leave it alone completely.

I don't really know to much about treatment, mine did good so I didn't consider it. I can say that when I put mine in it deflated, on more than one occasion it would give the appearance of it's insides coming out, it would shrivel up to the smallest ball of nothingness then just explode into this massive green carpet. I only moved mine when I knew that the location I had it in wasn't going to cut it. Eventually I hit the sweet spot, left it for awhile then started feeding it to keep it happy. Frustrated on more than one occasion but I was determined to keep it. It did move on it's own a little after finding the happy spot but only a bit and it was more towards the back. Try getting it's base to stick to the glass in a relatively low flow area. I'm not going against some of the seasoned pros just offering up what worked for me. Maybe treatment is best for it but maybe not, maybe it just needs time.

Strangely enough it's my LTA that's giving me a run for my money. I have my doubts on it surviving but I'll keep at it.

well I'm not counting him out yet.. now it's fully attached to the rock. a bit more inflated now. It was expelling this giant chunk of crap for the past 5 hours. now that piece is out, it closed the mouth a bit. Sometimes the inside of the mouth comes out, but quickly goes back in.

question.. does the base of the anemone sting? see my stupid little maxi mini.. won't move no matter what. been trying for 2 weeks before I got the carpet. I gave up..

here it is now..

Does your tank water smell at all? If it does pull it out immediately, into a QT even w/o meds. When they get sick and expel, it's disgusting.

this morning it was kind of deflated. It moved a little, touching my GSP. I saw some slime coming off where it's touching.. not sure if it's the carpet or the GSP.. I will smell it tonight when I go home

IMO, I am less concerned about the mouth and how inflated it is, and more concerned about the fact that it has not planted its foot in the sand and is not holding itself erect. A healthy Haddoni should burry its foot in the sand within 24 hours. Although Haddonis have been known to attach to a rock (which is very rare), a healthy Haddoni will always be able to support itself upright.

I would consider treating if the nem does not bury its foot or continues to lie limp.

Best of luck.

I have not began treating yet. I prepared the equipments. cipro is on the way from ebay.

I got 20 tablets of Fish Ciprofloxacin Forte 500mg

I will decide when i go home tonight.

thanks. a question about lighting. my only spare lights are some Coralife Aqualight T5 Fixture (2 bulbs. 10,000k 18 watt and Actinic Bluelight 18 watt.) I was wondering if it's ok to use or need better lights.

All 4 of my kessils are on the tank, I could remove an A150, deep ocean blue. would that be necessary or use the T5s?

T5s should be fine for treatment. I successfully treated my mag with a par 38 led bulb.
