Just got the coolest chiller!

Cool, thanks guys. Now let me check my bill to see what that costs me. ;-) I'm certain it is much less than my last chiller. Hopefully now that I have the new feed pump on, and when the chiller/fan are working in tandem - and of course the power supply out of my stand - I can get that down.

I've also toyed with the thought of only running the chiller 12 hours. I know outside of my photoperiod - one fan can keep the tank at 78. Once I get my kalk reactor back up, it will add more kalk at night keeping my ph steadier.

BTW in the first pic you see a red and green LED light. The green is on when the cooler is on, the red is on when the heater is on. In the second pic you can get a decent look at the controller.

This unit really sounds like the shot for people who have Tanks inside AC'd Houses. It's lower power consumption small footprint and fairly silent operation make it ideal. On the other side of the coin I don't think it will work well in a Non AC'd rooms and one also needs to consider how this unit will work during a Blackout!
If you have no power and have to use a Generator then make sure your Genny can power the House AC as well as the Tank or you are going to be in a lot of trouble with Peltier Cooling.

Here is a short sample the readings for Today. I will post all the details in the H&S forum a little later.
Warehouse Air Temp 90F
Water temp is 68.7F
Tub size is 32g
Model is Ocean 150.
Heat input into tub 20w powerhead.

Well I checked my bill and this will run me $9/month.

Robby - I can't say for certain how it will work in 90 degree heat, but remember on more than one occassion I've had to close my cabinet door and it exceeded 90 for sure! I saw no spike on my controller graph for temp, but I'd bet the chiller went up in wattage. In fact the one time I remember seeing the wattage over 250, it was the first day when I had the door closed most of the day.

It'll be interesting to see how this thing works in the winter. I will be replacing a 200W heater.

I think he just meant that the KWH would increase if the room temp increased. That room ranges between 78-80. If the room were warmer the chiller would work harder. Which is really the case with any chilling system since the room temp will also affect the tank temp. The warmer the room, the warmer any chiller will have to work.

Now I see what he was getting at.

Yes, but the efficiency them as a result of ambient temperature is not linear.

Like I stated from the begining, I don't suspect you are really saving any energy, but more gaining conveniece and other factors. Without comparing two systems side by side in the same environment it will be hard to tell how different they are.

100kWh a mont is nothing to sneeze at, it is surely a substantial amount of energy. However without anything to compare it to... well we are kind of stuck.

I have not made my mind up to buy one yet. I like the low maintenance and the silent aspect. I however am having trouble with the price tag. The energy consumption is not really my concern as I would need very little cooling (a single fan maintains me at no more than 82 right now).

Definitely true, I can't say how much energy savings there are. I suspect its probably only ten bucks a month max since electricity isn't much here. My last chiller was 1/3 hp and it was on quite a bit. I would imagine Californians would be looking at this one though. ;-)

If you don't need that much of a cool down and you're in wall, I'd just stick with a standard 1/4. I know a couple locals with Pacific Coast and they're like $450 (on sale) and really nice, not as loud as others. Those Teco chillers look nice also but look expensive. They also have a heater you can add to the unit as an option. The sound of the old chiller never bothered me, but my wife complained a little. So that was worth a couple hundred on its own. ;-)

I'll update from time to time or if something changes. I will also try to remember to measure the discharge water temp.

Just had a minute to check the KAW, it reads 357 hours and 49 KW. I haven't really had five minutes to spend with my tank lately. My tank temp stays with .5 degrees so I'm very happy with the chiller. My MH photoperiod is six hours.

Thanks Fliger, I think it's a very interesting piece of equipment but like Bean I think I have been messing with Peltiers to long to just be a convert right away. Like Bean what I really need to see is a side by side Temp comparison with Kill-A-Watt unit recording power.

I will say that at this point if power consumption is not your Major issue then this unit seems to be the way to go, it's silent neat and looks well made.

NP Robby, I'm not tryin to convert anyone - just lovin this unit. I don't think you could get much of a better endorsement than Roger though. I'm fairly certain this is using considerably less electricity than my last chiller. I have over 1,000W of light on my tank and some sizable pumps. I still haven't seen the red button (heater) come on yet. It is pretty cool that it switches from chiller to heater just like that.

Its been a while, I still love this chiller. By now at least 30 reefers have seen it and been absolutely amazed at its silence and size. Winter is coming, it lasts about a week here in Arizona so I'll get a chance to test the heater.

This is in the top 3 of favorite pieces of equipment ever bought. It's my wife's number one since its so silent. :)

fliger thinking of getting the 150 for my 30gal cube.looks like i could fit the chiller in my stand but not the electrical box.how long are the wires that go from the chiller to the box.
