Just wondering if anyone has/had a piece of the Acropora echinata...

Thanks, Simon! Yeah, that's a sweet deal. I'm more partial to the creamy white with blue tips morph that James originally had, but it's sweet nonetheless.

haha you really think it's a good deal at $120? I thought you were being sarcastic when you said he should list it for $150.

Nah, I think $120 is a good deal. The only true echinata's in the hobby now are this one, Tubs', and the one on LiveAquaria.

I got the two pieces I have less, but I'd jump on that other frag if I didn't have it. Probably even for $150 (if I could hide the expense from the Mrs. ).

darn, wish i can get it... but i'm upgrading tanks in a month and am not adding anything till the new one is settled. plus i have to get more equipment so i'll be broke :) so how does one get it back to the cream with blue tips? that'd be interesting to know...

Wish I knew. The first time I saw Sand Dollar's pieces, they were brilliant white with royal blue tips. AMAZING:eek2:

Just an updated pic from a couple days ago.
Not sure why, but my echinata turned to pale, almost white, with blue tips.

That's the way it looked originally, when James distributed it from Aquascene. I like it this way much better.

Here's a couple of mine:

Selling frags of my Aquascene True Echinata (james can verify lineage). Pickup only please. Frags range from 1" to mounted rock with several good size frags. $100-$200. 5 to choose from. I had a 5" colony which got some cyano in the center adn had to be fragged up. Here are a few macro shots:

Mine looks just like David Lo Pan's. I got it from James a long while back. How long has Aquascene been gone? Sure miss that store.

Very nice.......I prefer the white with the dark blue tips myself. Kinda hard to have a partially white SPS without doing something wrong in the process to get it that way.

The white part of the branches actually does have a bit of a green hue to it. You can see it in the first pic I posted on the upper half of the coral.

what is the difference between the one obtained from James / Aquascene and the ones from Atlantis Aquarium besides the price. They are this 4" aqua culture coloy for $90 instead of 1" frag.

The one you have pictured isn't a true echinata, which the aquascene "apparently" is. The one you have pictured is more likely A. Gomezi.

The true echinata has those long bushy radial corallites, whereas the gomezi has short stubby round ones =D.

Both are very nice, imo, but are certainly different.

Ben,
Every thing is doing fine, after dipping and cluing down it was almost 12 midnight just in time before my wife came back last night.

Thank you very much for the frags of echinata, most importantly for giving me frags of purple monster and superman denae as freebies. Hopefully they will encrust in no time and grow into nice colonies in 2 years just like yours.

I will take a picture of those frags after I try out that 3 day no light thing that everyone in RC is raving about.

Thanks again,
