Just wondering if anyone has/had a piece of the Acropora echinata...

Still good enough for me.......a white based coral that is supposed to be white, other than the ones I create by the usual methods, is unique to have IMO. Top that off with the blue tips......still looks good in my book.

BTW, Atl has that one now.........I think you should get one just for fun!!!

Speaking of fun, post that pic in the SPS forum and ask what you should do about that RTN........but Im just in a crazy mood cuz its my last week of school and may be the only one who would find that fun to watch the thread develop due to the rare coloration.

As Promised I am posting frags of Echinata from Ben who got it from James at Aquascene. It's placed high directly under 400W XM20K, with moderate flow. The tip has lost some color hopefully will regain it's luster in time and grow as big as Ben's 4' colony.
Tom, does yours look like the one shown below.

Spencer, no, it is much thicker, almost tort/stag like in appearance currently. more like this one on ATL's web site : http://www.atlantisaquarium.net/images/spsecheteal.jpg

hopefully it will grow out more like yours :) We are still waiting on our skimmer to break in and stabilize before we move the echinata frag up in our tank.

We already had a minor bleaching event on a frag or another coral that is placed pretty high up in the tank. This skimmer really pulls the garbage out of the water and cleans it up. :) So we are taking our time with our last round of frags, the echinata being one of them. Hopefully we will have the moved up and coloring up sooner than later :)

Brian, mine looks exactly like yours, did you get it directly from James.
How big was your frag and how long did it take to get to this colony size?

Tom, The one on Atlantis' web site doesn't look like a echinata not even come close to James' exact lineage. Is the frag bleaching out and losing the deep blue color, the one AgentSPS posted looks blue through out. Perhaps your 6'6" skimmer is pulling too much gunk out, want to trade with my fully moded ASM G3 :) hehe.

Bali and Indo both label a lot of stuff Echinata. 99% of Dinar seem to be miss labelled :( James bought countless colonies in order to get that one.

Spencer, Our echinata frag is not the one bleaching, it is on the bottom of our tank with several other frags, waiting to everything to stabilize. The one that started bleaching was a different coral and happened to be the highest placed coral in our tank. It was sort of expected, to a certain degree, so no worries :), but thanks for your generous offer :D
