Justin's Cadlights 39g build thread

I see... Well it sure helped to use established rock- any chance you ever figure out what caused the crash?

In any case, the new tank looks 10x better.

I never figured it out. Thanks for the compliments. It should fill in nicely when the corals grow out.

If ur running mogul sockets I wouldn't add the glass unless u don't want the splash. Have u tried to cut the photoperiod.

Nice tank btw.

Thanks. What would be the benefit of going sans glass? Why would I cut my photo period?

Here are two new macros I just recently took

Thanks been growing in. I need more corals. I think I'm going to change my aquascape but I don't know.

SPS have been lacking color as well. I think my nutrients are too low but I feed twice a day and I have a good amount of bioload but phosphates are always reading .02 and nitrates are always at 0. Chaeto is bigger than a basketball. Maybe I should trim it down?

Excellent. One has morphed back and the other is definitely morphing.

I think I am going to ditch this Radion and switch back to MH or go with T5 (more likely due to heat issues). My Kessils did better as LED then my Radions.

I got my YC from Rainbow Pets in Arleta. Under $20. Consider a melanarus as well. Similarly priced and extremely colorful and eats what the YC eats

I'm sorry the radeon isn't working out for you. If you do end up going back to T5's, how many bulbs are you gonna run, 6?

I'm getting a melanarus today for $20. It's 3 inches long. The one YC that lived is doing great though and given how much I paid for each, it is okay. Thanks again for the great deal and for meeting me up as well. You still need to drop by and check it out.

You will love the melanarus. It is a great fish to show in your aquarium and its colors will contrast well with your other colored fish.

I have never had T5 Justin. My cube previously ran a 150W DE MH 20K Radium. I loved it but my chiller ran constantly from heat issues in the warmer months. I will either go back to MH but with a hanging fixture or go T5.

If T5 I will look for an ATI 24" 6 bulb. I might not not run 6 bulbs at first, just four but have the comfort of knowing I can increase. I was told that Reefbrite makes brackets so you can add their strips to an ATI, so would start with four T5 bulbs and maybe add an actinic LED strip or 2 for added color to the corals and that would eliminate extra T5 actinic bulbs and extra wattage. Only thinking at the moment. My other concern with T5 is that the smallest fixture is 24" and my cube is 18" wide so it would exceed my width by 3" on each side. Not sure if it will be real noticeable if hung 10-14" over tank.

Rik, do you have a sump on your tank? If so, have you considered running a fan? I've been running a fan rather than a chiller and while I've had A LOT more evaporation (minimum 6 gallons a week on a good week), my chiller hasn't turned on once and the tank is below 82. I am running 2 x 250 watt halides on my tank as well. I think raising the MH in your chase will help greatly as well.

No sump Justin. The JBJ nanocube is an AIO so just some small compartments on back of tank. Fan not an option. I loved MH but don't know if If 150W will still be good if hung over tank or will need to go higher. I don't want to go higher in waatage

I think 150W is fine as well. I have a fan running on the top lip of both my old tank and now I have one running on the bottom of my canopy. It's a little unsightly but it works so well.
