Juv. Apolemichthys Xanthopunctatus (Goldflake Angel)

So I'd like to introduce you to the newest member of my display tank. 'Spike' my Juv. goldflake.

Some of you have probably read my earlier post concerning this little guy. He made it through everything just fine; just me worrying about things. And this weekend I decided it was time to add him to the big boy’s tank. So far so good and it's amazing the light and day difference in some of his behaviors between the QT and DT. For example he loves to swim in the open with my purple tang.

I've wanted a goldflake for some time and finally found one and a baby at that.

I normally don't name my fish but he needed a name after all that he's been through. I think you'll see why 'Spike' fits him. At the LFS he was housed with a Debelius Lobster that thought he was lunch. All the other fins have grown out fine except his dorsal fin but it's getting there.

Na, but reduced. He eat at the LFS and has ate all along so figured it was worth the risk.

Just figured I'd give an update on my little guy. When I say little he is about 1.5 inch long.

It's been a week since I added him to my display tank and all is good. He is eating and appears to be getting fatter and fatter. Swimming around and picking at the rocks however I do have a question. You'll see in the previous picture I posted that he is missing part of his dorsal fin. He was missing pretty much missing all of his fins, but they have all grown back except for the little area of his dorsal fin. I'm just curious if it ever will or does this fin take a long time to grow back? It's been like this for about two months.

If the damage was done at the base of the dorsal and not just the tissue of the dorsal then that area might be scarred and not grow the fin back.

Which just makes your Goldflake that much more unique !!!

Enjoy him, they are great fish and watching them grow up and mature is very rewarding.

Thanks for the answers...oh well the name will then fit perfect......the lobster did a wonder on her. You know a LFS, would rather make some money then deal with a damaged fish.

QT helped getting her eating and most of the fins grew back. Then it appeared that she just wanted to be with other fish so hence the move to the display. Which I'm glad I did; her overal actions seem so much better.

I think it's amazing how my purple tang has almost adopted her. The swim by each other a lot. The tang is not being agressive.

Just wanted to provide an update on my little 'Spike'.

Spike is no longer spike his/her fins have all grown back and I'm starting to see a little blue on the dorsal and tail fin edges.

It has also become quite quickly the king of the tank. Or at least the tangs let it believe so.

One of my favorite fishes and I'm amazed how good it has done considering where it was at when I got it.

I remember reading this thread back in sept and wondered how she was doing..
hats off to you- there is nothing better than seeing a distressed fish nursed back to solid health!!

Thanks for the compliment. I was really worried at first but now she is as healthy as can be.

Real honor that you were following her also congrads on your new additions too. You'll have to post a video of your DT when you add everyone.

Must be a goldflake thing, I adopted one with a damaged eye. Hes a pirate.
