Kalk/pickling lime

Is there any difference between Kalk mixes you buy at places like BRS, and plain old mrs wages pickling lime?

Not a bit. Tons of folks using pickling lime for kalk.

I take that back, there's one huge difference... Mrs. Wages is a whole lot less expensive.

I usualy buy BRS calcium hydroxide in the 5 gallon size weighing in at 22.5 lbs for $55 or $2.44 per lb.

Maybe so. I don't really know the UPS shipping rate for BRS. I order $175 or more of products at a time; so, shipping is free.Sometimes a few of us do a group purchase to get free shipping. Walmart doesn't always have the Mrs wages in stock at the store, so some shipping is sometimes involved there too if you spend less than $50 per order . Do you happen to know the BRS shipping rate ?

Thats certainly something to consider. Ill have to start doing bulk buys later on, but for now, grabbing a bag while Im at walmart for 5 bucks is pretty handy.

I buy Mrs. Wages for $3 a lb. locally.

Where's Mrs Wages coming from these days? Hopefully not from China where contaminates have been found to be exceedingly high in some products they ship over. Nobody seems to check up on products from overseas to make sure they are according to standards specified. lol

Just don't order from Amazon. It's about $17 per 16 oz.

I buy my Kalk from BRS the same way and do the $175 minimum free shipping, like Tom does.

Maybe the Mrs. Wages on a smaller volume system, but hard to beat BRS when you start buying in quantity.

Not really, I don't remember the shipping rates rfor smaller orders. Do you know what it is ?

I have no idea who gets what from which supplier. Mrs Wages has been used for a long time.BRS is widely used too. As with any produc t suppliers can change and impurities are always a concern. Don't forget the Kent Reef Carbon fiasco for example. With kalk at food grade impurities may be less of a concern if you don't dose the slurry given the self purifying nature of lime water

OK got the shipping cost fron BRS to my house it's $20 for a 5 gallon (22.5lb ) bucket. or a total of $75 ,ie, $3.33 per pound vs Walmart Mrs Wages in store for $3.92 per lb.Not currently avialble in the store locally so shippe I'd have to add whatever UPS charges would be.

I have found it at a local walmart several times in the clearance section for .99 a bag so I will usually pick up whatever they have at that time.
