Kalk reactors for swap

Those do look nice! Where do you get your acrylic?

Jack... yours is not to be overlooked, either. I was going to build one like yours until I found a used one. :)

Nothing like RWillieK's though. His was $30 in parts. Great work! The only thing I would change is move the intake to the pump higher up to keep too much sludge from going through the pump and shortening the life of the impeller.

Do you have a build thread, Robbie?

No build thread....I only run about three to four inches of kalk in my larger reactor, then the pump doesn't get any sludge.

I can tell anyone how I build them, they are easy, but a little labor intensive....

please forgive my ignorance but what does a kalk reactor do for your system? would this be something I should have on my 24g nano?

RWillieK, are you reserving reactors for the persons that expressed interest or were you just gauging interest?

rev... we're all ignorant... no worries about posting questions here. :D

Ultimately they are used with pickling lime to supplement calcium, alk, and raise your pH. :)

More info about lime can be found here: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-01/rhf/index.php#13

A kalk reactor simply allows the lime to full dissolve into the water so you don't dose the impurities that are also in the lime, which fall to the bottom of the reactor. :)

This is about all I know... so someone with more knowledge feel free to jump in. :)

Looks like dzones and rsteagall are 1st and 2nd. I'll hold the two for them until an hour or so after the frag swap starts....then they are fair game.

sound fair?

Robbie

And - I can make more of them if people are interested in having them shipped. They might not be $30 though, depends on the price of acrylic and such.
