Kalkwasser, Calcium Hydroxide, Picking Lime???

I really don't want to pay for kalkwasser when it seems to be the same as pickling lime/calcium hydroxide. Does anyone buy picking lime/calcium hydroxide locally? If so, where?

Most grocery stores carry Mrs Wages pickling lime. Especially this time of year.

I have shopped multiple stores and can never seem to find it.

Check either at Rod's Reef in Dekalb as he keeps it in stock most of the time,

I've been to Jewel, Dominicks and Meijer and can never find it.

I ordered a case of Mrs. Wages on-line...There's some canning supply company in the burbs that it comes out of (Bolingbrook or something). I could never find it retail either...didn't look that hard though. Not worth my time to hunt for it when I can have it dropped on my door step.

Joel is using pickling lime from a mexican restaurant with good resutls. The get it in 50# bags very cheap. You might be able to get a shop to give you a bucket full for a few bucks?

Maybe we can get Rod to sell it that way like he does his charcoal?

If you purchase it online, be sure to compare the American spice store I posted vs. the Mrswages store ... as she will get you on the shipping. That's why I used the American Spice last time as it was cheaper.
