Kalkwasser

I'm not using a kalk reactor, I just use a bucket and a pump and let it drip into my sump but I was wondering if the kalkwasser needs to be stirred or anything after you first mix it up?

Kalkwasser

yes you need to stir it and let it set a few hours before dosing it. top skin and bottom sediment are no good for your tank

Yeah I know that. I meen after you let it settle and it's been running for a couple hours, do you need to stir it again?

I use one of these - Big Dripper/Little Dripper Systems (used for providing humidity for captive reptiles. )

I mix, let it settle for 1-2 hrs then set it for 2 drops per min evenings and works a charm.

I just use an aqua lifter pump but it drips a lot faster than that. It's like 1 drop every 2 seconds and that keeps my alk right around 10.

The top skin is precipitated calcium carbonate. It can clog stuff like pumps. The bottom slurry is precipitated impurities and undissolved kalk. Dosing it can clog things, add impuities and /or add to much kalk at one time.

It can hold it's strength in a still reservoir ( buckett, brute can. etc.)) for several weeks without stirring. It needs a vigorous stirring when added to the ro water and about 2 hours to settle before dosing. The dosing tube should be a couple of inches from the bottom to avoid dosing the slurry.

You are welcome Epstein. NYC trasnplant from where exactly. Grew up there myself. Now in Buffalo.
