Yea, probably good enough for deciding on shorts.

I'm not trying to bust your chops here and I've read a lot of your threads, but if kar93 is trying to emulate the Red Sea I think the difference between 90F and 84F on someones reef tank is significant. :)

you are absolutely correct----I was just quoting the way to do a quick estimate. If the poster had said they need an exact measurement I would have refered them to a metric conversion chart on the net--there are plenty of them

--but hey--if you want to bust my chops--ah well such is the life of an everyday reef poster:lol:

Ill be sure to get some pics of the fishies and coral and upload them on my next thread. BTW its not the 3rd time in 10 weeks im going in 10 weeks and it will be third time ive been  Just to point that out.

look forward to seeing the pics

Im hoping the pics will be better than the last bunch from last year. Im getting me a proper underwater camera with video and everything :D instead of buying one from the hotel shop ;)

I haven't got anything done or bought anything new because I am going on holiday in just over 8 weeks. So ive decided to do everything when i get back. I will start a new thread when i get back.

Seahorse/Pipefish Tank Aswell!

Seahorse/Pipefish Tank Aswell!

I have decided i am going to build a 5gallon tank and put it right next to the tank and link it up to my system for a pair of seahorses or pipefish. I will put some Mangroves in there, GSP and a few rics. I will wait a few months before my tank is mature though. I know seahorses and pipefish require lower temperatures so if thats going to be a problem i dont have to link it up to my system. Any thoughts?

sounds good but if sea horses need lower temp. then you could run pipes along the input and run cold water through them if you catch my drift

The only thing I can think of that wouldn't continually lower the temp of your tank, would be a surge (or purge?) box. That would slowly fill with cooler water via an inline chiller or something, then once it gets to a cetain height release the cooler water into an area of your tank. Then it would slowly fill again. If you could time it properly you may be able to add cooler water bursts without throwing off the overall temp of your tank for too long.

beats me though. I know nothing about seahorses... just was brainstorming how you could have cold water enter your tank.

i think i may forget the seahorse thing because I am now planning my 200g. So I am going to K.I.S.S for now.

This thread is slowly wasting away so ill update you a little.

I am going to cut out the brace and replace it with clear acrylic so the light isn't blocked out in the middle. Im also going to add a 150w halide so i wont have any worries about the lighting situation.
