Kar's 55g Red Sea Reef Thread

I thought being a nurse or dr would be kewl being able to help people and make a difference... after seeing my sister in the hospital and the "bad side" of them I knew I could never handle it.

GL! Being a Dr if you could deal with it would be pretty amazing job.

Yup, we have the NHS (national health service). Although some people go private, I think thats about 8% of the population.

I'm having trouble deciding what to do. As you probably know, I have the Seio 620 but would much rather go with 2x Koralia 2 or 1x Koralia 2 and 1x Koralia 3. I have a Koralia 2 right now but that was used when copper was in the tank. If left to soak overnight in RO/DI and vinegar then gave a very thorough cleaning and left for another night in RO/DI and vinegar. Would copper traces still remain and this be a problem to the tank?

i would get some RO/DI water and leave it in there for a while and test for copper otherwise i cant think of another way you can do it

I would take it apart and let it soak, put it back together and run it for twenty min in straight vinegar, rinse it off and run it for 10 min in water.

I can't answer if it would still be a problem either--I haven't seen any info on that listed here before---I have seen posts where the copper as gone into the silicon in tanks however.
 
Thats what I was thinking aswell, Randy assured me that copper doesn't really get into silicone and with a good clean it will be fine. Could I just ask, any more posts to be made about the tank to be made in the new thread as it is a waste of forum space keeping 2 threads open.

I have one question Kar....

First off I love the Red Sea idea. I actually thought what it would be like but I never thought about doing it. Now I noticed you looked into the parameters well, but maybe I missed it, I believe the specific gravity in the Red Sea is like 1.036. ( Anyone please correct me if I am wrong). If true do you plan on running at that SG ?

BTW if you don't add anymore pictures I may start going through withdrawal.
 
I believe it varies all over the Red Sea between 1.028 - 1.036. I wasn't planning on running it at that because the fish I was planning to keep aren't endemic to the Red Sea, they are from all over so they probably wouldn't fare well. But the Red Sea thing might be coming back into action because I am currently deciding wether I should keep Seahorses or fish. Here are a couple of pics I took of the tank today with new camera.

Im going to give the tank another scrub this weekend, I think I will literally have to PBITAWA! :lmao:
 
Ok, So along with alot of other ideas I had about this tank, the seahorse things has gone down the drain. So, I will use this thread until I get back and then I will start up a new thread for my tank.
 
I am sad to say I may be getting out of the hobby for a little while, so if I do this tank is not going to happen. Over the next month or so I am going to have to make the big decision wether I am or not.
 
That sucks.... I guess everyone hits that bump in the road at some point. Make sure you keep everything so if you feel like starting up again.
 
The large tank is a couple of years away yet so hopefully that is still happening. I was planning to keep the equipment so if I do take a break then I may one day decide to just fill 'er up.
