Kathy55g, or whoever else has recently setup a basic breeding system,

Do you have a post with a setup log or information regarding your setup?

Reason is, I am currently researching breeding False perc clowns, since i have a mated pair.

I bought the clownfish book and have read it, so please dont tell me to look there! I want to see actual setups!!

Here you go.

It was fun reading over this old thread. This week I am fixing a leak in the sump, i hope without too much interruption to the hundreds of babies I have in there, AND since my own clownfish now are spawning every 11 days, I need a bigger system to really take advantage of the largess.

A tip. Try to plan out the electrical needs first. Right now I have extension cords on my extension cords, and I 'm a bit nervous.

I need to hang shop lights over the system and tidy up the electrical some. Harder to do now that I have hundreds of babies to care for.

I also need more air pumps than I thought I would, so plan that in to the system. Manifolds are easy to make and cheap to purchase, but you need enough outlets and power.

Electric, including lighting, air, plumbing, filtration.

Having tried 10 gallon tanks and 20 gallon tanks, they both have advantanges and disadvantages. The 20's, when they are not full as in when the larvae are just hatched, and the first week, are great for providing surface to air ratio, keeping that water oxygenated. 10's are easier to keep clean with a smaller floor to siphon. 20's, of course, hold more fish, and if you can consolidate hatches that are close in age and eating the same feed, you can actually be pretty efficient. So in conclusion, I like some of each size.

Cheers,
Kathy

Good advice about the electrical needs

Get a tech in there and add outlets when need it, ask for plastic pipes since most use steel to do the wiring. Also give him an average of the watts needded in each outlet, addding more and more extensions and splitters will make the circuit breaker go off.
A liilte heater there, another pump there adds up.

Get a few medium size air pumps , not a single big one, in case one fails you have the others to get you by.

Have a spare motor and ss seal for the pump if applicable or a spare pump is you go with a submersible one.

I ussually keep 3 of each pvc fittings 2" or smaller and 1 each pvc. fitting 3" or above, that is in use in the system, also pvc solvent, marine epoxi for unexpected leaks and silicone. Home Depot is not open Sunday at 11pm.

its SOOOOO unfair that they are not.

dont forget any gaskets/orings/seals for your air pumps, and a few extra check valves, not only to replace any broken ones, but in a pinch they can act as a plug to section off a problem area temporarly while you work to fix the problem. and spare fuses IF you use them.
