ok...today is THE DAY!

RESTACK BEGINS...

I'll try to take step by step pictures...the tank is amazingly stocked...so there are buckets, tubs...tarps...everything to make sure that stuff comes out and goes back in ALIVE.

The reason i've waited so long was because I was in search of a HUGE rock to use as the main structure for this restack.

Hey kat. Gimme a ring I literally have a few pieces that range fro 65- 100 lbs.

He wasn't kidding. Wait 'till you see this monster...and the price was excellent. Thanks!

The other BEAUTIFUL add you will see is the ENORMOUS red cap that used to be in G's display tank. That was also an offer I couldn't refuse.

You mean the one that was growing up against the back of the tank? I believe that baby is actually PURPLE under the right conditions. Correct me if I'm wrong G.

nope. that was the center one...this was the one on the right hand side corner sitting on a tonga branch that Dan wanted...so Dan dragged my butt outta my garden on Wednesday and i went up and picked it up...along with a new paly frag and a Flasher Wrasse.

thank you so much! i believe when i tackle this restack tomorrow, saturday..i am going to go with black sand...maybe...i've got both on hand...if i use the white for the 120g, then i will be cleaning the 55g aggressive and using the black sand in there...should make the lion fish, eel, marine beta and Patrick the starfish a nice contrast.

stack on bare glass...place sand so that only certain areas are lit with the christmas lights from below...even with just the moonlights on, they really do make it look like an underwater grotto...keeping the sand at bay by using smaller rubble pieces around the main rock structure.

believe i am hitting the hay early so i can get a jump on this first thing in the morning...show tomorrow night, so don't want to get stuck later on and have to rush.

hope this goes as well as i have planned out.

ok...here we go. Yesterday...i finally did the restack. It took me 8 hours start to finish. here is the before shot of the tank:

stacked on bare glass. i left the white sand piled in the back since it was LOADED with live mysis shrimp. the front has a 1/2 inch bed of black sand. the caves have little or no sand under them. I still have christmas lights on and added a blue 25watt uplight under the larger cave that is formed by the huge rock and three other pieces. Right now, with the lights off...it is eerily beautiful...reminds me of the cave dives I did in Belize. The schooling fish are in the larger cave and really seem to like it in there at night with the only light the soft blue from below. Other spots in the tank with the colored lights look like molten lava. It is crazy...and pics just don't do this justice.

here is a night shot, without the cave light on...since i really can't get a good picture of that...you all will just have to come see it in person.

Unfortunately, there were three losses.....cleaner shrimp and clown goby hitched on the live rock and did not notice until too late. My Powder Blue Tang, who was already having a rough time with Milky Skin, just couldn't take the stir up of the sand and even with meds, sadly went to fishy heaven about an hour ago. She put up a good fight, though.

I can't begin to tell you how much I am in love with this tank, now. Once all the corals were placed back in...taking time to place and think about the grow out/in...looking at the way it all came together...I'm in this state of, "i really put this together????" shock. lol. Seriously...I have to admit...stacking rock is an art form...and I have been fortunate enough to have had some excellent teachers in the last year.

For everyone that has contributed to this tank, for the peeps that got irritated by my constant, "refresh, mine" aspect to grabbing coral and fish in the last few months, let me just say, thank you...because without you guys, this dream would not have come true.

wow

wow

you must have some sore body parts today!

Tip: soaking your fingers in white vinegar can dissolve bristleworm bristles while calming and shrinking any swelling.

Vodka dosing (internally with OJ) can help with the rest of the aches and pains :strange:

Kat that stack looks off the hook! Be sure to post more pictures once the tank has settled down. So roughly how many pounds of rock are you using now?
