keeping 6-8 green chromis?

Seems like the best odd number is 1 so :hmm5:
I had 3 over years ago. One died back in March maybe( not bullied or anything ) I've had the 2 remaining and they are fine no problems at all. So you never know I guess but from my personal experience odd numbers seem to work

It may be a factor alright. The only problem I see is that once you lose one of them, you are then down to an even number so what happens then?

A little while ago, scientists did a study to see if schooling fish can count. They would show an individual fish two schools of the same type of fish, plus something threatening like a big fish behind glass. The fish chose two over one, three over two, and four over three. Beyond that, they didn't appear to register a difference.
In other words, some freshwater schooling fish can count to four. Somehow I doubt it matters too much whether you have eleven or twelve chromis. I know odd groups are suggested for freshwater fish, but I think it's mostly because odd groups look more natural.

I have to ask, though... Why are so many people trying this? I mean, I know a few people have succeeded and it's awesome-looking, but there have to be at least a few thousand chromis dead because people tried to get schools of them.

I won't take that bet for 2 reasons
1. I have 4 in my tank for over a year and no signs of aggression. I personally think having enough small nooks and crannies so they don't compete for somewhere to bed down at night has a bearing
2. I've read your tag line!

i bought some and they are doing great. added another 2from the othr tank and they were killed. the ten that i bought together are fine. feeding at least twice a day. now 3 of them start dancing and making a whole on the sand. then they get aggressive when other goes to their whole. just odd
