keeping Valenciennea wardii goby without sand

No one has chimed in to say that it's not possible, just that it's a bad idea, mostly based on what have been suggested before them. Not too many with personal experience. Sure I take all that into account, but I also learn to absorb the information and see how it would work with my tank setup.

For example if someeone asked if an achilles tang can be house together with a powder blue tang for long term, most would reply no. If everyone took that advice, you would never see a tank with these two in there. There is something to be learned with people's experiences but adapting it to make it fit your setup is all that matters in the end. I can say I am a proud owner of both of these tangs in my setup for almost 9 months. I take reef keeping advices as a grain of salt. There are more than one way to keep things alive and it doesn't have to always be by the books.

Well, it is clear that you don't really want advice and it is also clear that you are going to do what you want irrespective of what people are advising you. So why did you waste everyone's time? it will be much more effective to siphon off the detritus but more importantly, you need to figure out why you are getting that level of waste/detritus.

Since you want to hear experience...Having spent 20 or so years involved in the trade, I have had occasion to keep and observe these fish in bare bottom holding systems. They are very obviously stressed with the lack of sand, and quite typically refuse food till they get placed in a system with sand. So the lesson here, sand sifting gobies need to live on a sand bed.

Give us an update in 2019 and we'll see if we still consider it "successful".

I wasn't go give it that long ;)

I've seen it done before, it almost always leads to problems sooner or later. With later generally being under a year, and a rare occurrence that peace holds out that long.
