Keeping your UV sterilizer on A Timer...?

I know some people, including myself only run uv sterlizers for a week or so with 3-5 weeks in between runs.

I was wondering if anyone has had experience with running their sterlizers on timers for like 1-2 hrs per day.

if so, plz share your results and opinions :D

I was thinking of doing exactly the same thing. Have you noticed any effects with this? What made you decide to do it every 3-5 weeks instead of say, every other week?

I havent done it yet, was thinking about it.

I personally like to keep my focus on the biological style of reef keeping. Lettnig the system support itself, with minimal interference, except for a certain few chemicals and feeding. So running a UV more often kills off more of the live food that the reef produces on its own.

not real sure but I have heard that the ballasts for uv's are not meant to be turned on/off frequently. Maybe contact the manufacturer

on another note, I don't think it would be that effective running only 1-2 hours a day, no explination justy my uneducated feeling

Ive done that - I used to run mine on a reverse cycle off during lights and on at night. Noitced a little outbreak here and there nothing major(BTW i ran mine that way when i was starting my tank). IMO if u have one u runned 24/7
