KeithRett's BC29 Build

Hello all,

I'm currently in the planning process of my next tank and thought I would start up a tank build thread. I've always wanted to start up a tank thread but tend to get carried away with the build and forget to start one up. This thread will be my attempt to document the progress of this next tank.

Equipment for the build: (still working on acquiring some of the equipment)
Oceanic Biocube 29
Vortech MP10ES
Rapid LED biocube retrofit
AquaC Remora skimmer
JBJ ATO

Stocking plan:
Snowcasso & Picasso clowns (currently in my 50g)
RBTA
LPS and maybe some SPS

I will try my best to update this thread with pictures as this tank progresses, but until then enjoy some pictures of my current tank.

Tank: CADLights 50G Artisan w/ slightly modified sump
Lighting: 1x AI Sol Super Blue w/ controller
Filtration: iTech 100 cone skimmer w/ Tunze hydrofoamer
Water movement: 3x MP10wES and 1x MP40wES
Additional Equip: JBJ ATO, RKL, ZEO 2L reactor
Additional details: ZEO system

Isn't 3 mp10's and an mp40 a little overkill for a 29g?

I know having pumps from multiple angles is certainly good but seems a bit excessive on a 29. I'm guessing they are not turned up very high?

It certainly looks amazing though. Great Job!

Haha, sorry for being unclear. The tank above is my current tank and will remain running while I set up this new BC29. (I won't be transferring the equipment to the new tank, only some of the livestock) The plan is to use a single MP10 for the BC29. I'm not that mean, I would never make my fish live in a nano with that much flow. lol

I was able to set the tank up today, I had some trouble getting the tank level but after playing with the shims for a while I got it pretty close. I plan on adding the LR tomorrow and if time permits maybe I'll get to play around with some possible rock layouts. As with my last tank, I plan on using epoxy to secure my final aquascape to prevent rock slides. (which has been a problem for me in the past) Once the rock is secure I'll add the sand and then the wait will begin. Until then, heres a picture of the progress thus far.

I added the rock last night so that it would be in heated water and honestly I'm kinda fond of the rock work. What do you guys think? I'm open to suggestions. I also had time to mod the back of the BC29 hood so that my remora skimmer would fit.

I'm a noob who's looking forward to watching you build. You previous tank is gorgeous! Can't wait to see what you do with this one...

Thanks

Sorry for the delay, my current internet doesn't allow me to upload photos to photobucket for sharing. :headwallblue: (getting better internet tomorrow, thankfully) Anyways, the tank has been set up for about a week now and I'm currently in the middle of an algae bloom. (I added 5 hermits and 5 snails) I will be ordering my LEDs soon so that I can get them installed, my friend who will be doing the DIY retrofit is getting back into town within the next few days.

Had time to do a couple tests today
Results:
Ammonia >.25 ppm (Salifert)
Phosphate .11 ppm (Hanna)

Hello everyone,

My apologies for the long delay, I haven't had the time to update this thread like I originally thought I would. Anyways, the tank is approaching the 2.5 month mark and is coming along nicely. All parameters are in check/ stable and all the inhabitants are happy and healthy. Due to the lack of a camera I am unable to share current pictures of the tank but I will work on posting some soon.

Updates:

Inhabitants:
Cleaner shrimp
Porcelain crab
Picasso/ Snowcasso clownfish pair
Yasha Goby

I recently purchased a sunburst BTA that is being held in my 50G tank until this tank is ready to house an anemone.

Added an MP10
Still working on getting a JBJ ATO

Enjoy some eye candy

Im not a fan of the aquascape. Its bland. Just looks like a pile of rocks.

Thank you for the criticism, I'm hoping the rock work will fill in with the addition of my corals (especially the SPS) and not look so bland. This scape is actually quite similar to how my 50G looked before I added the livestock.

Sorry. No offense just not for me. I think more effort could be put into the aquascape. But if youre happy with it thats all that matters

Hope my new build will look this good. Just started getting all the pieces.. So here's hoping the new year will see this start going together.
