Kelly's 300g in-wall build thread

The line for the return is air locked. with pump off open the union on the outlet line for the pump. let some water push out then tighten it back up and turn the pump on. are you going to drain the tap water and refill with rodi?

Of course I am going to drain the tap water, lol. I will try to get pump started.

No. But I'm done for today. Gotta work tonight. I will check it out tomorrow am. What u think about the mp60s? & liquid level controller?

I've never used that brand of powerhead but I wouldn't trust any electronic that looked like that. And they are either really big or you have really small hands.

Did you try plugging the pump directly into the wall? I wonder if it's possible the pump was drawing too much current through the solenoid.

Cant plug the pump into the wall. it has a switch adapter and no ac adapter. I thought that maybe the pump was too powerful for the solenoid but it is the same booster pump they sell with that set up. Who knows.... And yes the mp60s are quite large.

Oh man those pictures of the vortichs don't look good and I am really shocked because ecotech has a really great reputation. I would send them back immediately to who you bought them from.

As far as the solenoid valve goes...does the booster pump still work and the solenoid is just not opening to allow water to come out or is nothing working at all?

I am unsure. When i plug the solenoid in nothing at all happpens. It may be stuck in a closed position which would interupt power to the booster pump as that is what it is supposed to do. The only way i have to power the booster pump is through the solenoid so i am at a loss to trouble shoot. But if i had to guess id say its the solenoid.

I have sent email to spectapure, ecotech, and the retailer i bought the ecotechs from. Of course the are closed until tomorrow. i have a major exam tuesday so i will pretty much be studying non stop after i get off work tomorrow morning. so another few days delayed.

Got one problems solved, I think? But I am sooo Angry!

Instead of reposting, just read my link below about my awful experience with spectrapure today. It seems I need a new transformer for the solenoid and booster pump which I have now ordred from BRS, I should be back to making water in a few days.

Ecotech is looking into my MP60s, they have been very kind and will be calling me today.

Thats great! Ecotech has an excellent customer service group and they are very accommodating. I am surprised about spectra pure because they are pretty popular products in the hobby and have usually heard good things about them. I did get a kick out of him telling you that he wasn't feeling well and had a head cold. I am going to try that with one of my clients some time.

Hello,

You have a really nice build going on and i know what you mean about once finished not having any money left to buy corals. lol
You have your pump sitting higher than your sump although you can get it to work i believe you will have on going start up problems if you don't lower it. Water should gravity feed to your pump inlet from filter so you won't have to deal with air locks all the time? Food for thought:)

Good Luck!

good point. I had raised it up so it would be a bit easier to get to, but I could reasonably lower it. In all honsety I havent messed with it since saturday, I have been working night shift and studying for a big test. I plan to get back on the build on wednesday. I am so ready to finish this build and enjoy watching my tank grow.

Ecotech was wonderful. They are sending me 2 new dry sides for my MP60s, shipping out tomorrow.

Good for them. I was a little surprised in that I have 3 MP40's and at least one of them has the same issue. I've always just pushed the cord's rubber insulation back up and went on my way. I did wonder why the design wasn't such that it prevented this from happening.

according to tech support they feel the problem may be in the box they are packed in. Mine arrived that way. Do you have your cords above or below you mp40s? I think I read in the instructions that the cord is supposed to be secured above the dryside w/ a zip tie? I haven't paid much attention to how they are set up (I was more focused on the damage, lol) and was kinda wondering why the cord is supposed to go up, seems like their would be less wear and tear if it were to go down.

I could be wrong but I dont think they are draw pumps qnd cant draw water from the tub. as a pressure pump they rely on water being fed into it.

I run these pumps on my system. They can't draw water like that. The pump has to be at or below the level of the sump in order for it to prime. By raising the pump above the level of the water you are drawing from, an air lock is being created.

You are 100% correct, most pumps will not draw water up to them unless primed but then if for some reason the power goes out it will not restart without priming. Your pump inlet has to be near the bottom of the sump water level.
