torch, no kenya tree

Well, many corals have increased their growth rate since I installed new lights. My forked torch is a good example. So was my kenya tree. However, it appears that the torch may have grown to the point that it touched the kenya tree. Now the kenya looks like a shriveled up grey tree. On the bright side I do have some pieces from the kenya tree in another area of the tank. How big will the torch get before it splits?

No idea on the torch, but move your kenya, they are really resilient, I wouldn't be suprised if it bounces back fine. Mine will shrivel up to about 1/6 of it's full size if it gets really mad.

Good points. I raised the torch up higher last night. Only a small part of the tree looks to be turning to mush. Hopefully the rest will make it. Torches must pack one heck of a sting. First time I have actually seen one in action. Usually I just read that they are stingers.

Torch corals are probably the most aggressive (generally) between itself, and it's two other cousins, frogspawn, and hammer/anchor coral. Care should be given to allow adequate space between them and other corals due to their strong sting, and potentially long sweeper tentacles. Your Kenya tree should recover just fine; if you want you could probably frag off the dying portion if you wanted to.
Usually if conditions are good, the heads of the torch coral will just split, or you will see new heads bud. There isn't a certain "size" they begin to split at.
