Kessil AP 700 Owners Gather Here!

This is exactly what happened to me. I reset the app multiple times, then I clicked on one of the default programs a few times then back to mine and it started working.

I think I also "reset" the wifi by making the blue light blink (down arrow and +) then unplugging for 10 seconds. Some combination of this all got mine to work.

Wifi or direct connect? I almost pulled the light off the mount today and wanted to drive my truck over the light several times. Then just go out and buy ATI T5 boring crap and call it a day. Soooooo close.

Hey fellow Albertan! Where did you purchase your lights? When I had a problem with my Kessil a160we that suddenly stopped working one day, I contacted Ray @ Reef Supplies and he contacted Kessil on my behalf and set up free shipping back and forth for the new light. Super painless.

If it wasn't at Reef Supplies, try contacting the retailer and see if they can help. Since they do sell the product, and probably want you as a return customer, i'm certain they will at least try to assist you :)

Concepts. Only one lamp left in Canada according to Kessil. Getting that one sent to me. At my cost of course. Which is absolute BS. I wish I could just plug into the POS light with my laptop. Download the program then call it a day, garbage, such a good light, brutal software issues, even if I get it working how confident am I if I go away for 2-3 weeks that the lights are going to work while I'm away. No way to tell, can't monitor it in Apex, this was a poor decision to buy these lights and I am not happy. :deadhorse1: do that for a while and finish it off with this :blown: then the hell of this will be done. If I don't laugh I will cry. It's pretty sad to watch corals die from a slow lightless world. Thanks Kessil, good job. (Was that enough drama? Or pour it on a bit more?)

They admitted to me that the beta firmware currently had a fatal error that causes schedules to be broken. Roll back your firmware to 2.1 and delete any schedules you created while on the beta firmware.

The beta app is ok (except performance sucking).

My last point is 0

The last point should be 10%, not 0. The light shuts off at some point between 0 and 10% and therefore toward the end of your schedule it will just go off prematurely. If you look at their sample templates, they all end at 10%. I just figured this out :hmm5:.

I emailed Kessil about my feed back and the programs not running right away. Have yet to hear from them.

If you are on the beta firmware, they are aware of a fatal bug that is preventing scheduling from working. They've indicated to me (twice) that they are working diligently to resolve it.

In the meantime, if you have a light that's actually needed I would roll back to 2.1. You can do that by opening the upload utility and using "Offline Update" with this hex file:

That is straight from Kessil and worked great for me this morning. I am just offering a link so people don't have to wait for their email.

I just got the email from Kessil, yes they are working the bug. My lights are functioning normally now so unless I encounter a fatal flaw I will continue with testing the new beta firmware and app.

Yeah, just be careful. I woke up at 6am this morning and went downstairs to find my light on full blast...

According to kessil the last point is 0% intensity

Thank you for contacting us with your question. If you are wanting to program the light to turn off at the last point, the intensity setting for that point should be set to 0% (off).

I never dealt with that, at the end of my photo period immediately starts the lunar period.

I have been on the phone with Franco from Kessil daily, not once did he mention anything about a fatal error that they are aware of and he is the one than is sending out the beta. They are sending me another light (won't pay for shipping ) it seems that one light follows the program and the other doesn't, it will manually and it will take the program point that you are at once you close the program and set it but once the other light moves on to the next point it doesn't. It's almost as if the one light loses connection some how or doesn't have an internal clock. But here's the kicker, when I reverse the way I have the lights set up (ie: set up light 2 as light 1) the first one works but the second doesn't. Explain that puppy.

When last point goes to zero I started my lunar cycle at the same time and it just went to the quarter moon phase which is where I started it. Has anyone gone through all the phases of the moon? Does it actually get brighter each night as it gets closer to full and then get darker on the way to new moon? If it does that will be pretty cool for spawning. If my **** lights actually ever work that is.
Well everyone once in a while one has to step out and say "talk about a first world problem". Makes me feel a little better for all of about 20 seconds. Then I go back to :headwalls:

So your lights are back online?

I did notice that the last firm ware the lunar cycle and brightness did change throughout the month, I just assume it would continue that just dimmer.

He's the one that mentioned the bug and sent me that rollback hex file. Rolling back fixes the lights but you also have to delete any profiles that acted corrupt while in beta too, it seems.

There's no magic in programming. There's just something in that beta that causes unexpected behavior. Based on both of our experiences, it sounds like it is related to how the firmware reacts to being sent a new program from the app and not something inherent to the particular fixture. In other words, what you are experiencing is a pretty clear indicator that there's nothing wrong with your lights, there's just something broken in the firmware. Hence why the bug appears in the position of the light, independent of which fixture is in position 1. It's possible the beta app plays a role as well though I've mostly ruled it out since it works fine with the public 2.1 firmware.

I wouldn't bother going through the trouble of exchanging the light if you are still on the beta firmware and haven't rolled back. It takes like 10 seconds to go back to 2.1. But if you have rolled back and still have the issue then that's a different story.
