Kessil AP 700 Owners Gather Here!

As I previously mentioned my only major issue appears to be that I can only get the wifi to work through the router if I disable all security and encryption. Obviously this is not the most ideal situation. Other smaller issues are not switching back to the program after the set time out period, lights staying on after reprogramming. The work around seems to be to switch back and forth between a preset setting like acclimation and the program I just did a few times, then it seems to get in order.

It really is a shame that this light does not function the way it should, because when it does work I find the output and coloring to be very pleasing. Having been able to control my other Kessil lighting through my Apex has spoiled me. It's too bad Kessil choose not to have a 0-10v input to control the AP700.

What kind of encryption are you using? It works fine with WPA2, which is what every home should use. You aren't using WEP, are you?

Can we get some snapshots of people's ap700 lighting schedules and if they are sps, lps, or mixed tanks. Thanks

I am using WPA/WPA2 with AES. I have tried to connect to both a WNR3500L and a WRT54G both using the same encryption and it's been a no go. I tried various encryptions on the 3500L and nothing works short of turning off all security and encryption. This was the case both pre beta install and after.

Hmmm, I've had no problems with it connected via router. Here's my only advice:

- Forget the old Linksys router. Those old WRT54G boxes have been obsolete for a long time. Even if you have it hacked with DD-WRT or Tomato, it's still useless for this purpose. Wireless G is dead.

- As for the 3500L, I'm not sure. Are you running a wireless N network on 2.4ghz? As far as I can tell, the AP700 does not support N or AC on 5ghz.

The only other advice I can give is that when I set mine up the first time it appeared like it didn't work. Then, a few minutes later, it was connected. I've had no problems since.

The linksys was really just for a test purpose as it is, as you pointed out a old (but very stable) router that is flashed with Shibby Tomato. The WNR3500L is the router that I would connect to normally and it is 802.11N 2.4GHz wireless. I am puzzled to why I can't get it to connect to any router that is running any type of encryption?

On a side note they did offer to charge me for new lights as they thought maybe there was something wrong with them. So they were going to send my new ones "that I would pay for" and send my old ones back "I would have to pay for the international shipping which I'm sure is in and around $100+- USD. Then they would reimburse me just for the lights. I have yet to come a across a company (especially considering I was told that I was basically the only one that is having this problem to this extent) that wouldn't cover all costs on this considering it is their product that is the problem. Unreal.

I was about to do it then the damn things started to work. Well not any more.

Hey fellow Albertan! Where did you purchase your lights? When I had a problem with my Kessil a160we that suddenly stopped working one day, I contacted Ray @ Reef Supplies and he contacted Kessil on my behalf and set up free shipping back and forth for the new light. Super painless.

If it wasn't at Reef Supplies, try contacting the retailer and see if they can help. Since they do sell the product, and probably want you as a return customer, i'm certain they will at least try to assist you :)

Yeah, echoing Razor's comment. Don't settle for that service, get your LFS / vendor involved. This isn't some $40 ebay light, and if they want to cross-ship then the only thing you should have to cover is a deposit for the replacement fixture till your original one is returned.

So after much though for my upcoming build i think i got a conclusion to my light dilemma. for 135g cube 36x36x24 rimless SPS/LPS dominate. Im going to do 2 Ap700's mounted with the clamp on tank arms one on each side. I fig with 2 Kessils they say 24x48 spread but truly 36x18 so two should do it.

Whats your thoughts?? if not Radions G4 2 of them but I like the look of and shimmer of the Kessils.

Best Colour Selection for Growth?

Best Colour Selection for Growth?

I have an AP700 over my frag tank while I work on getting my main tank setup. I am just looking for feedback on what people have found works best for growth with the preset colours? It is a bit hard to determine what slice of the colour wheel people are using just from the screenshots of the graphs. For instance bif24701 it looks like you have moved to a lighter blue than you originally had as your highest point in the past, any benefit (in growth) from the change? I also notice that you have started to add red/green into the preset colour wheel colours, also any benefit other than aesthetics?

If possible list the colour names (from the wheel) as the shades can be tricky to determine.

Is 40% considered low or med for mixed reef, 36x22x22? Don't have a par meter everything looks happy but only into light for 30 days

Med to med high. I'm running 45% on a 40b which is slightly smaller than your tank. Sps heavy.

I have made slight changes but only for aesthetics. I'm now at the very middle blue/white on the color wheel at peak and step up/down to second to last blue through the day. I've added 15% Red and 10% green again only for aesthetics. As far as growth or color I think you would be safe with anything toward the middle but with Kessil Logic you can be assured that any color you choose will get the job done, base your choices on what you like. That's one of the great features of the light.

I'm currently struggling with color due to a lack of nutrients that I'm working on by adding potassium nitrate.

Didn't kessil say blues were the only thing really required,, the more you get towards white it just increases algae growth.

Well in the ocean blue and violet are the spectrums that penetrate the most so the least amount of white you can get away with the better plus it just means higher pur/par ratio.

Hmm, is it asking you for the password every time? When I did it, it asked me for the password on the first attempt, which I flubbed, and then never asked me again. If it is asking you for the password everytime, perhaps you have a different issue. One of the changes to the firmware was to improve connecting to WiFi (better authentication support, etc.). My not have had the desired effect for you.

Also I have not loaded the 3.3 firmware yet. Waiting for my lights to go out before rotating them to my Mac. That may explain the different behaviour.

Dennis

Don't update!! My lights were working before. Now they are completely.....you know what. I'm am literally drained from this. I wasted 6 hours yesterday and prob a good 3 today. Still nothing working so f'n mad.
