Kessil AP 700 Owners Gather Here!

Not sure I fully understand that but how should it be correctly done either way?
Kessel has in the software to run the lights for 5 minutes at very low setting before activating your program. Simple as that. 5 minutes of 1%.

If your schedule said at 9am turn on at 95% you would damage your lights. This warms them up.

Setting up a Red Sea reefer 350 ~47"x20"x21". I've been entertaining the idea of running the ap700 but it seems there are a lot of connectivity and program issues with this fixture..I'm sure this is an awesome fixture IF no problems arise. Did anyone of you guys currently with this light run 360we's prior? My other option will be 2 360we. If you guys could, would you go back to the 360s to save all the headache?

I had two 360s before and absolutely would NOT go back! This fixture is not two 360s put together, it is a whole different light. The fixture has work flawlessly for my self save for an issue with a recent beta version that was quickly fixed.

There are some whom have had issues but if you read on those issues have either been fixed with a an update or where caused from something outside of the fixture it's self. The one who have had prior issues are by far the minority as with anything you will certainly hear/see from those that are having issues, the ones who have no problems have no reason to post or write up on a forum. Also Kessil allows users to beta test its new versions prior to pushing it out to everyone, most of us here are beta testers and we post things we find here. Some testers are very thorough and find things that most would never see because the new revision will fix those issues and possible the tester is pushing the limits of the capabilities. Reviews on vender sites are still very positive. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this fixture or repurchase it if I could do it all over.

I second his comments.

Thanks for your input. I'd like to encourage more input from others as well.

From what I've read here; some people have experienced no lights or waking up to the lights on max intensity/wifi connectivity issues. I cannot afford any of those issues as I am consolidating all my equipment during the upgrade.

I don't absolutely need a light of this high caliber at this time but it would be nice to have it so I wouldn't have to upgrade at a later date. On the other hand, I would much rather go with the 2 360s if that would mean no headaches since they're virtually plug and play.

I'm beating my head into the wall between the two options -______-

Why is it a 'whole different light'? Other than a fancy interface, what is better about it?

The interface really isn't why this light is great. Take what the 360 do so well, add more/better blue/white LEDs, include full spectrum, UV, and moon light LEDs and add a larger lens and reflector to push more light down into a better larger spread pattern. Then there is the sleek look, touch controls, and WiFi control (only one wire). This light puts out well more light than two 360s. BRS did a good review, they likened the spectrum to the most popular T5 bulb, ATI Blue Plus.

This video should clear up some questions for you.

I've been contemplating the same option: two 360we's or one ap700. Seeing many used 360WE on sale makes me itch to upgrade my light. Thanks for the answer.

I was at my LFS checking out their display of the ap700 and asked to see/play with the interface and sure enough, they had a connectivity issue. The guy reconnecting it for me said it was his third time trying to reconnect. Unfortunately, I think I will hold off on the ap700 for the time being.

Keep in mind that part of it might have to do with how the router is situated. My router is 3 feet from my tank and I've never had any problems.

That's a user error. There are no connectivity issues with the light. There have been some oddities in scheduling (which are fixed in current beta) but not issues connecting to it.

Then maybe it's a router problem like reef3r said ¯\(°_o)/¯

It could be a router problem or the guy just didn't set it up right or didn't know what he was doing

Or maybe it wasn't even set up through the router... I'd be willing to bet that was the case and the employee just didn't connect directly to the lights wifi hotspot. Little reason for an LFS to set up the light through their router.

I second that, I think only o e individual had connection problems because he was connected through the router. I bet he didn't change his WiFi connection to the Kessil. The AP700 doesn't have connection problems. The problems come from not setting up the router port forwarding correctly when folks are connecting through a router. Most people including me connect directly to the light via WiFi, to connect I just go through o my WiFi connect on my device and chose the Kessil. No one has had connection issues, I agree, user error.
