You will want to set the time for when you have the lights going off as dusk. Then dawn is when your lights turn on. That's at least what I did with my moonlights. I actually don't use the moonlight feature anymore. I may in the future.

I kept playing with it and eventually figured that out to be the case. Thanks for getting back to me. Now, if I want to add a cloud feature somewhere in that program, do I just figure out where and insert it?

Correct, you will also need to set a 0% intensity level point into the regular program or else the light will come on and be the same intensity as your last set point in the program.

You can set dawn earlier to make the moon lights go off. I set my dusk/dawn cycle to 11pm (when main lights go off) to 2am so that the tank gets a period of total darkness.

Or does the AP700 simulate a full moon cycle over the course of the night meaning that it will vary intensity across days and times? There's no information about how their moonlight works but it does have the "starting cycle" setting.

Good question and I don't have an answer as I have the same question haha. I know that my 2 connected ap700's will vary in which one turns on/off by a few minutes. I assume it's mimicking the sun as it moves across the sky.

That is caused by clock drift. The clocks in the AP700 are prone to drifting over time. If it supported NTP, it could connect to a time server to re-sync, but I don't believe they do. Connecting with your phone / tablet will cause a re-sync to the time on your handheld's time.

When you have multiple AP700's running the same schedule is when this becomes noticeable.

It is not a bug though. It is an unwanted feature. :lmao:

I set them for a full dusk/dawn cycle and the moonlight was quite bright at 7am when I was leaving the house. Too bright IMO. They really should just make moon lights a normal data point that you can start/stop. The "lunar cycle" seems to be bogus.

Can someone explain to me the Acclimation program for the AP700

Can someone explain to me the Acclimation program for the AP700

I've not yet purchased any corals for the tank. I'm trying to understand the acclimation program and have a few questions. Do I set the parameters in this program or does the program set them for me? Are the setting based off another program? If I set the parameters, do I set the starting parameters or the max parameters, and the program ramps up to those settings as it acclimates? Any other suggestions?

The acclimation setting is a preset program. It cannot be edited. If you look closely it also states that on the top of the acclimation program screen. The program will vary automatically. It is a good choice on a new set up when there is s concern of having too much light during new tank cycling. It is also useful when adding new fish to your tank. You can make a new program using similar set points and edit them to your liking, if you desire.

Just an update of growth since I've stopped chasing low nutrients. This efflo has grown about 1 cm in little over 3 weeks. You can see the newer growth as the white band on the bottom. It's encrusted to the live rock. This was a few weeks ago and it's already put out more growth since.

Anyone worried these lights cannot grow sps is mistaken. All my other corals are all baseing out and shooting up new growth plus really coloring up!

The latest firmware listed an improved realistic moon cycle. It's supposed to mimic the moon phases as they occur in nature. Seem to do so, I do notice that the moonlights are brighter than others.

These lights seem to match well with slightly higher nutrients than the typical reef lights.

My tank does best at 3-4 ppm nitrates n 0.03ppm phosphates.

I haven't checked nitrate and phosphate for awhile and they were both pretty low again so I dosed kno3 and fed a bit more. Colors are amazing though.

Oh yes, fact! I wasn't getting anywhere until I stopped chasing ULNS as well and actually began dosing PNO3 and Seachem Phosphorus as needed to maintain ~5ppm NO3 and ~.05 PO4. Now in the last 9 months frags have grown into small colonies. Some monits have grown huge in just months and I was forced to relocate and trim them.

Question on Acclimation Feature: If I click the acclimation icon at the bottom of my light program, does that activate the preprogrammed acclimation feature that reduces the intensity and then gradually ramps up over time? PS. First time trying to attach a pic using photobucket. Not sure what's gonna happen. http://

Yes, but it's much too fast I think for most users. Most everyone finds they must increase there amount of nutrients in the system for best color and growth with this light. It does so well that the corals will easily starve with the high efficient light and low nutrients. I find that 5ppm NO3 and ~.03-.05 PO4 does well. You are welcome to experiment yourself.

The Android app is so bad for this light, it still drives me crazy. I pulled the APK and decompiled it so I can try to figure out how to send commands to this light on my own. If I get some time, I can create a browser plugin or new app that works better. Such garbage lol.

I have a plan to get 2 units for my 180g 6 ft tank, I am new to the hobby, but I see people I having lots of issues with this lights. Should I better consider another unit Radion or Hydra instead. I heard lots of also good things about kessil so not sure which one to pick.

I'm only two months into this. I chose this light because one AP700 covered my 48" tank. Its beautiful. The lighting is fantastic. And I have it 15" above the tank. I love the shimmer. I only have a few corals at the moment as I let my tank mature, but I've been very happy.

You control the light through their app that connects via the lamp's wifi. I do wish I could connect with my computer. But the app is simple.

The only issue with the lights is that the software was reportedly abysmal when they were first released. The quality of the lights are excellent as is Kessil's customer service. You'll see that some people will supplement them with T5's while others like them as is. I think what you'll find though is that the light more than adequately covers a 36"x24" area and can cover up to a 48"x24" area. Two should do great on your 180. I'll finally find out how 2 look on my 220 tomorrow
