Kessil bad for Rics? Sidenote: Orange Crush ric worth it?

Hey everyone,

I recently put a kessil 15k over my tank and it looks great! The ricordeas don't seem to mind them at all and look amazing under the blues (pics soon to be posted). But from what I've been reading is that they aren't too happy under LED's and tend to lose their colors. From my experience with LED's, when I had Ecoxotic Panorama Pro's, they all turned green until I placed them in a different tank with T5 lighting. Only then did their original color return. However, my LFS uses the same lighting set up with a few stunner strips and their rics stay the same. I'm just worried if the kessils would do the same as the LEDs that other people are saying... Open to inputs, experiences, and suggestions.

On a side note, could someone with an "OG Orange Crush" ricordea put their input on the ric? Is it really worth that much more compared to a regular orange ric (they're about 2-3x as much!)? They're always getting sold out on the site, even at the relatively high price... Pics would be great!

okay good to hear. I don't know what happened to my Ric...I can't even find it anymore...and all my mushrooms and kenya coral are closed up...I probably need to raise the light...how deep is your tank? What is the distance between the bottom of the light and the rice?

Rice... you mean Rics? I'd say about 12" away from the rics. I'm still moving the Kessil around everyday. My tank has only about 12" depth, 9" if you include the sand. I have a nanocube. They all seem happy and don't stretch for light or close up. They also prefer lower flow of water. I had one in a relatively high flow area and it was constantly closed until I put a rock to shelter it from the excess flow. It's much happier now.

I don't know anything about the Kessils since I use t5's in my system. But I received an Orange Crush a month ago and it is the brightest Ric I have. Here is a pic of it (phone...not the best quality) and I would say it was worth it (cuz I love rics and needed this color :xlbirthday:).

I dont know anything about kessils either. Or if my orange ric is an orange crush (it is bright orange with purple center and green mouth). I have it under ecoxotics and in 3 months its split once and in the process of splitting again. Bright colors during the day and at night under my moonlights it glows like crazy.

I keep mine under 24" of water with ecoxotics above. Maybe you had yours too close?
