Kessil Club

trying to decide whether or not to put (3) A360We's on a 6' frag tank that is only 12' deep. I know that I am going Kessil, but do you think maybe the A160We is a better light to go with, I have recently had that fixture. For all the Kessil Pro's here......

The above picture is an a160we, the thing I noticed is the dark led. I figure that must be the one used for UV. After some research I found that my camera has a high pass filter at 400nm, so that led must be below that.

What I have found with the Kessil A360we is that unless your coral purchase comes from a tank lighted by a Kessil A360we light you MUST light acclimate your corals. I put all new purchases in indirect light for a long time before moving them out into full light. The full spectrum light provided by Kessil burns corals in no time. Just like humans corals need time to build up protection from the UV rays. Wish they made coral sunscreen.

Corals make their own sunscreen :P

Very true. I almost killed a lobo open brain at 40% intensity.

Testing 1, 2, 3...

A benefit of being a musician is having some spare band parts lying around. I didn't buy the gooseneck for mounting my Kessil light fixture. So I used one of my old mic stands.

Completely adjustable in all directions including the height. I'm going to cut an opening in the top of my canopy so I will still get the shimmering effect on the walls and ceiling, which we enjoy a lot. I mounted the stand to the back of my tank stand/cabinet rather than using the mic stand base on the floor behind the tank cabinet. A little bit of modding and it works perfectly.

Music stores always have cheap mic stands for sale. I saw some recently for as little as $15 on sale, some with gooseneck tops. Beats the $40 for the Kessil gooseneck.

How's that shimmer treating you? :)

So good, that while I still wanted my canopy over my tank, I also still wanted the shimmer on the walls and ceiling, so I made a cutout in my canopy. I needed to anyway as I wanted to be able to pull my canopy off without having to remove the light. But I made it circular so the light on the ceiling is this rounded shape of shimmering light.

You should make a screen top and ditch the canopy altogether. I mounted mine with goosenecks and got rid of my canopy when I switched to kessil, it makes for a really clean look.

Yes, I like the clean look too. But I also designed the entire display to be part of the decor of our remodeled living room...
