Kessil Club

Finishing my T5/360W rack tonight. Very similar setup with four dimmable T5's and removing 2 of the 4 Kessils to balance things out.

Congrats! Looks great...

Finally finished my Kessil / T5 combo fixture.

What did you use to hold the Kessil's in the T5 frame?

I used 3 straps of metal (leftovers from cutting the T5 fixture down the center) that were roughly 3/4" wide and 2 1/2" long per opening. Attached pointing down towards the tank evenly spaced around the opening. Dropped the Kessil through the hole and used a large hose clamp to wrap around the Kessil and the 3 straps...simple. Just make sure the Kessil holes are just big enough to stow the wires back through and run them inside the T5 fixture.

One last pic. If you look at the Kessils you can see the hose clamp I used to attach them. If you look at the center Kessil you can see one of the small straps that I used as support between the hose clamp and the Kessil.

That's really nice! What are the end plates made of?

My tank will be 36 wide x 60 long and 24 deep. Adding t5s to the front and back of the tank. Mounting 3 360we across the middle. Mixed reef. Recommendations on height. Had 2 previously mounted 7 inches high on my last tank

I'd go between 7-9". You don't need to worry about coverage as much since you are combining with T5s

How many kessil 360we would you suggest for a 72"x24"x24 trying to keep SPS/LPS. I was hoping to use some chinese boxes thing but I thinking of going with Kessil. (due to the boxes not fitting the canopy) might run the kessil with 2x80w t5 or something as well

Mine is 72"x48" and I keep a mixed reef with 6 a360we, so I'd say 3 would work fine for you

This might be a question with a straightforward answer but there are the sun led and blue led....whats the difference/your preference?

EDIT: sun is for freshwater?

Yes, Sun is for freshwater. You'll want the Tuna blue

I've got a 60 gallon cube that I light with a 360w with controller. Very happy with it.

Setting up a shallow frag tank, ultimate dimensions are 24"x28" and 16" high.

Should I do just one 360 as well? Maybe 2 160's? Frag tank will be mainly LPS and soft, but would like ability for SPS if ever needed

You could probably get away with 1 360 and just keep really low light corals at the edges of the tank, but you might be better off with 2 160s. That would allow you to have different lighting intensities in different areas of the tank

It will be just a frag tank, so I don't think I'd have to worry about shadowing for the most part. I guess the 160s I could tilt in from both sides If I ever do.

My DT is upstairs. My frag tank is in basement. Same system. Is there any way to use my spectral controller on both? Or would I need to buy a second one to control the frag lights?
