Kessil Club

Ok question...

I have ramped up to 60% intensity and 65% color from 45% intensity and 40% color over the last several months. It is 2-360s over a 21" deep tank...8" off the water line.

All seems to being doing very well but I noticed that my branching frogspawn and green nepthea seem to open up more at the 45% intensity and tends to expand out instead of up at 60% intensity. The both tend to be near the mid to top part of the tank.

I am wondering if it is okay to allow it more intense light at the peak time of day even if both corals seem to be their most expansive at 6pm in the day when it drops to 45% intensity? Is 45% too low of an intensity for the peak of the day?

It depends. If you want to add sps you may need a higher intensity and lower the corals you speak of in the tank. If you have pretty much just lps and softies and they are happy at 45% peak, then that's all you need.

I just put them on and I can say that the shimmer appears a lot more natural than without the diffusers. I only have one AP 700 with the diffuser and the other one I'm still waiting on. I like the less pronounced shimmer. Without the diffuser, the shimmer is really intense and can be distracting, this brings it down a notch.

I don't know what it will do for shadowing or light spread, but I can say that I like the diffusion better, but that's just my personal preference.

How are these working out. Did you have to increase the intensity with the diffusers on. Does t have any effect on shadowing or just reduction of shimmer.

I am putting together a 150 Deep and am thinking of going with either Kessil or Current. Haven't decided yet and have time. But, all the info has helped.

Just stopped by WWC in Orlando and look what they have over the acro frag racks. They said they are getting amazing color and growth. I would say the colors are amazing.

180 Gallon Dream (Now Reality)

On my 100 gallon I have two a360we's and a a350w. (The 350 was a gift which forced me to buy the two 360's) But i have four pieces of tri color acropora spread throughout my tank and today I was noticing that the piece under the 350 had some crazy blues and greens along with a streak of purple through it while the pieces under the 360's were just the standard burnt orange with green polyps. Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon? I will post pics later when the lights are on but I thought the 360's were supposed to give better coloration and be more effecient.

I have tricolor acro under 360we and it was mostly light brown and green. When I moved it to a lower light spot it has starting to turn more blue. 360we is to strong?!

It depends on how you acclimated the coral to the light. My small frag of tri color that is strictly under the 360we is almost completely green. Its a unique coral and I think there are many variants which contribute to the different colors it produces

My kessil over my 20 Gallon Long

What kessil is this ? Also has 1 kessil been enough light for the tank? I have a 20 gallon long but it has the cheap eBay lighting and I don't like it ... And where did you buy your tanks and what's the estimated price I was quoted 800$

This is the Kessil 360w. Has been plenty of light and great growth. I actually bought this tank at petco $1 gallon sale, and made it rimless. I then ordered custom cut glass here locally and made a eurobrace. Check out my link in signature, shows the build.

Would love to join the kessil club, just added a 3rd 360we to my 120 gallon.

The 3rd was probably over kill, but I wanted to make sure the corals on the very ends of the tanks are getting light. I bumped down the overall intensity (using Apex). Wondering what the best color/intensity I should do for Monitporas and other SPS?

I have 2 360we over a 75 gallon mixed reef. Since adding the Kessils, I had a massive bubble algae explosion, then a cyno explosion. I feed very little trying to keep the nutrients down. I supplement the kessils with 2 t-5. I had the intensity up around 85% for 2 hours a day and ramp down quickly after that. Total of 9 hours from dawn till dusk. I reduced it yesterday to 65%. Lights are 8.5" from the surface. I had black box LEDS prior to this upgrade. The kessils have been over the tank for 5-6 months. My corals seemed to handle the intensity fine, just had little growth over the last few months.

I will be building a 250 gallon 5' tank soon. Thinking of ordering a third light to spread over 5' Anyone think this will be to much?

Not at all 3 should be perfect for a 5' tank. Could probably grow sps anywhere with that coverage

Ok so I just joined the Kessil club after much debate on how to light my first reef tank... I was about to go with T5 but most people said I'd need an 8 bulb fixture over my 4x2x2 foot tank, and I wasn't a big fan of having a light hung from the ceiling. BRS said 2 a360 would be fine for a mixed reef with sps for this tank so that's what I ordered today.... However now that I'm looking over this forum I'm seeing people with as many as 4 lights over the size tank I have. Sooooo should I order a third? Or will two be ok...

I purchased a 250 Deep Dimension from a fellow reefer and will be moving it in a couple of weeks. I was planning on changing the light from a 36" LED to 3 Kessil A360we's and then a couple of T5's for the edges. Anyone have Kessil's over a Deep Dimension?
