Dang I am sad! I just bought five 360we's for a 96" long, 30" deep, and 24" high tank thought it would be good enough. Guess I need another one? I am not into acros though. LPS junky here. Do I still need to have more than 6?
Thank you in advance.
...

Five on 15" centers would likely work for LPS but you bottleneck yourself down the road should you choose to add SPS (which inevitably seems to happen). If annual changes of T5s is an issue, you may as well sell off all your equipment now because there inst anything as set and forget as T5s.

For LPS and maybe some SPS you will be ok. May need to verify PAR on the bottom. The wide 360 has great spread but not as much punch with deeper tanks. Anything about 50 and should be ok with some LPS.

Rubbish.

You turn a T5 unit on, done. Even the hanging height makes bugger all difference.

LED requires the right intensity, colour, hanging height, spacing.

You only need look at all the LED threads, thousands of questions regarding intensity because 'my corals are shrinking/bleaching'.

Same thing can be said to any equipments we use in this hobby. But that doesn't mean opinions that differ from yours are rubbish.

I have a 45 gallon cube. 2424x18.. I currently have 1 160we. I'm trying to figure out if I should buy one more 160 or go with 1 360? I plan on keeping sps and lps. Any thoughts?

I really feel at this point after the last couple of pages that these lights are way more over rated then anything, specially according to kessils website, really debating going back to my China LEDs

It's not about the power. Most will light a tank based in Kessils recommendations just fine. It's about spreading the light around so you get less shading.

I'm lighting a 40b with a single AP700. Getting good growth and color. If I went with A360, I would run 3, not the 2 they recommend.

My 5' 190 I will be running 3 AP700s. Currently it has 2 and has way more power than the tank needs. But I'm rotating the outside 2 so they are perpendicular to the tank and adding a 3rd in the middle so it straddles the middle brace. This way I will have many overlapping areas of light.

Is there a simple modification I can do to the AP700 arm mount, so that I can tilt the lights slightly toward the back of the tank?

There's a bad glare from my sofa vantage point.
All you need is a small visor to block that light. You could do something as simple as getting some heavy black stock paper or foam board and making one.

Question on your AP700 on the 40b. I have a frag tank with the same dimensions with a single AP700 over it. Any idea how high off the water you have the AP700 mounted, and what is your maximum % that you use daily? I had my AP700 mounted way high, but I am in the process of lowering it as I had lots of light spill. I think I have my AP700 set to low 30's (%), but am always waffling between it being too much light and not enough. I need to get a PAR meter ...

I am also setting up a larger tank with AP700's. The tank is 10 x 3 x 2.5 and I Will be using 5 AP700, 1 for each 2 ft of tank, mounted perpendicular to the length.

Mine is set about 8" off the water and a max of 55%.

But raise the levels SLOWLY. They pack a punch!

How high a light level also depends on your water. I run pretty high alk 9-9.5, and higher than normally accepted levels of nitrates (5ppm) and phosphates (0.04ppm).

I also don't do water changes. I do run a CaRx with reborn media and dose other trace elements back using the Red Sea Colors program. I also use the test kit to test what and how much to dose.

It depends on what you are after really. I like kessil because 1. The shimmer is impressive; 2. It is relatively cheap; 3. Low profile meaning I don't need a rack to hang them; 4. I am not after Acros or other demanding sps. So over all Kessil is a very good fit for me.

Always kept a very mixed reef. I guess they're cheap of you're not after SPS. At which point your essentially spending more then you would on radions. At least from what this thread is saying. I do enjoy the shimmer and the low profile. I had great growth and color on my SPS from $300 china LED fixture, thought I was stepping up from that lol. Guess we'll give it a couple months and see how they do.

No reason why the choice would be any different if Acros were what you were after.

Light is just 1 component of a successful reef. Just because you got the most recommended light or the most expensive light does not automatically guarantee you get good growth and color.

You will want more than what ecotech recommends as well.

I've run AI Hydra 52s, Radion G3 Pros and found that I like Kessils best.

Had a buddy with the same tank and another with a 300DD both ran amazingly with only 3 radions not even turned all the way up
