Kessil Club

I would say the 160 would be plenty on the bc29. I had a 360 on one but that's just because it's what it came with and I never ran it over 60% intensity. I have two 160s on a 40 breeder and they do a really nice job. With the $ you save going 160 I'd toss around the idea of the controller just because sunrise/set effects are pretty cool.

Gday all
I want to join the club
I have a 22x22 x 20 inch deep cube I wan to light was going to get a ap700 but from my reasearch I think 2 160we would be fine ?

Any suggestions on what way I should go
SPS up top of tank and lips at bottom
Was thinking the 2 160 would be better than one 360?

And if need add another 160 to help with shadowing

1 360 won't be enough for sps, 2 would be way better.

I have the controller and its awesome.

I have only 22x22x20 tank so would one 360we be good enough ?
Few Only SPS very high up and lps on the lower section of the tank

Ok I placed one A360we over the tank yesterday and the tank seems like it has lost a lot of light and brightness compared to the radion that it replaced
I have the intensity ramping up to 65% and colour max at 50%
I am a bit concerned about increasing the intensity and damaging my corals
So do I need a second unit to increase the brightness ? Without having to increase the intensity?
Also if I add another A360WE would also decrease the amount of shimmer at all, it a bit intense at the moment with very little surface agitation

Before I go out a buy another A360We would it be better to buy 2 x 160we to go either side of the 360we?
I have the 360 in the centre of the tank at the moment would it be best to place another 360 in front equally spaced so front to rear or side by side?
Also if I went 2x 160 same deal should I run front to rear 160 360 160 or run side to side?

2 360s would be perfect for that size tank. Really need a par meter if u are trying to match your radion.

I would personally go with the two 160's as the biggest issues with kessils is shadowing once you have dense colonies.

Bugger now I'm confused what way to go

One 360 should illuminate your 22" cube perfectly for quite some time. They are deceptively powerful and emit a lot of light in the range our eyes don't see well, don't fry your stuff. If I needed to add another I'd do a 360 for the sake of uniformity, but that's just me. They can be angled slightly inward to help with shadows but I think you'll find that you don't have many with reflection off of the glass and sand. One 360 lights up my 18" cube like a prism.

It depends on how much sps he has. They loose a lot past 16" spread. I have done a ton of testing on 2-5 360s and 2 ap700s.

it also depends on your aquascape, types of corals etc. I ran a 350 over a biocube and had shadow issues, then I ran two 360's and a 150 over a 65g and had shadowing issues so I added t5's, then I ran 4 360's and two 160's over a 120g and had shadowing issues. just one single monti cap can render a massive amount of your tank useless when running kessils. personally the only way I would run kessils anymore would be in conjunction with some reefbrite strips or t5's.

Well thanks for the help all
I went ahead and bought another A360WE today and put on the tank
Now I'm happy with how bright the tank is now and have plenty of power for the SPS
The shimmer did drop a bit to a point where I am happy
The two lights are now 8 inches apart
So will drop the intensity and do a acclimatisation mode and see how it goes
The lights are only mounted temporary will make a nice bracket to mount them to and hide the cabling
Thanks for everyone's help

Since you've added a second light, I'd cut the intensity in half for the time being. I think you would have been fine with a single light because you don't have much room for corals to grow out large enough to be a big factor in such a small tank.
