As I noted in another post, my rock is coming on Thursday. I asked if they were diving and she said they got some "keys rock" in. The web site doent mention keys rock. Is this different from the regular rock? I hope it isnt lesser quality. Please if someone knows , let me know.

I think you should call them back and confirm exactly what is being shipped etc...

No one here will be able to answer you with 100% certainty.

Keyes Rock

Keyes Rock

I called them this morning and was also told they had the Keyes Rock. I am getting my order in the morning. So there will be pics of it later tomorrow. I also heard that it is alittle different but just as nice as the Gulf Rock. I am setting up 30g and ordered the 29g Package, the air bill online shows I am getting 2 boxes that weigh a total of 96lbs.

I placed my original order on 3/14.

Well this is the rock I got. I am not crazy about it. It isnt as nice as all the other stuff I have seen from TBS. I had only one hitchiker, a worm . Not bad, but not as nice as Pat's. I will ask for the Gulf Rock for the final part.

BTW , that worm was sucked into a pump and EXPLODED all over the tank.
I ran to get my skimmer setup fast. The tank has cleared up nicely. Does anyone know what to do about the silt or dust that is covering everything in the tank ? You can see it on the pumps in the pic of the tank

Believe me...give it some time....the hitchhikers will be showing soon enough. I only saw 2 snails when I got mine..that's it! I was waiting to see all these neat things like I had seen in other people's posts in other threads.....and I didn't.
I would say for the first 1-2 weeks, I did see a few things, but it was like one here, and one there....nothing teaming with life.

Turns out, they were teasing me, because they were all in there! Within a few weeks, I was seeing more life than you could imagine. I still can't figure out where it was hiding for all that time.

Also, please note that I have been told by many different people, that my rock was nicer than what they got from TBS. I did get awesome stuff, but in all fairness, my camera takes really nice pictures and can show it off more than some other people's.

You can blow that silt stuff off with a turkey baster. Use the baster to blow the stuff off of your rock too.

Pat your rock would look good with a disposable camera. Look at my avatar. I am a videographer, I am very familiar with cameras. Its not the camera, your rock is nicer. I will wait and see what lies ahead. As far as the turkey baster, I have used a pump to blow it off , but after it settles it is still all over the place. It doesnt just go away. I wonder about a HOB filter just until the silt is gone..

Hello. The keyes rock is what we got. At 1st we didnt see any life. After we put the rock in and was able to kinda see into the tank the 1st thing we found was a baby urchin.

Then we started seeing small serpent stars. We have seen white, green and brown,

The we just happen to be moving the rock and we did see what we believe to be a pistol shrimp. He was hiding good. We did find a gorilla crab and was able to get him out right away. We think we have found another. We also have some other kind of crab hiding in our cave rock. I have also seen 2 hermits and some kind of red looking earthworm in the sand. Just give it some time. The life will start to show up. I am all the time in there with my flashlight looking for life.

Im pretty sure thats how it looked just a bright solid yellow.
Then it's most likely a pistol, and they're good guys too. They won't destroy anything in the tank, and the most it will do is move some sand around to make burrows. As long as the rock is secure, you don't have to worry about a thing.

are those things bad???

ahhh!! my bf cracked open one of my LIVEROCK and found earthworm looking things in my rock i freaked!!! are they bad or good??

The various worms in the rock are fine. They are all detritous eaters. If you watch carefully you will see them extend out at times and snatch something, usually too small to see what they've grabbed. Some are spaghetti worms that extend a mass of tentacle like mouth parts out to snag food. Probably other types as well (various fan worms and such).
