Does anyone know of any place hiring full time people? I am graduating in May from VT and I am looking for a job in the area. I need all the help I can get in finding one. I am not picky as long as the pay is decent.

I will have a degree in Biology, but don't necessary need a Biology job. I am pretty much looking for anything really.

I'll be in the same boat as you coming up in May hopefully. I have been considering jobs at Tech, or at CRC as far as in town jobs.
There are several companies at CRC and they have been hiring lately, one I can think of is Intrexon, another is Revivicorp. Though they may be looking more for masters experience.

Also there are lab jobs at Tech. Laboratory Technicians, as well as the animal care technicians. I have worked in an animal care position and though you do get a lot of dirty work, I enjoy it. Those jobs you can always find on the website jobs.vt.edu.
There is a website for companies at CRC but I have seen them posted on Career builder as well.

The companies at CRC as well as jobs at tech may not pay what you're looking for, not really sure what your ideal pay rate is. But I know the benefits are good at Tech as its a state job, so all the health care, retirement investments, possibility to get additional classes paid for and such add up.

Best of luck on the job search.

check the VT website for lab tech jobs....also the corporate research center. there seems to be quite a few openings right now. so i'd apply to them while you can, openings usually dry up by summer. you are right most of those jobs are severely underpaid....VT is behind the times in this aspect. a job under $30k is insulting for some of those biochem positions that require a very large amount of technical training.

ATK/Radford Arsenal is another option.....they are always looking for lab techs normally. the work is not enjoyable, but they overpay nicely.

SWVA has a very poor science market for jobs. get out while you can. best places are northern virginia and research triangle park in north carolina. those places are booming with opportunities.

career builder is also a very good source.....forget monster. maybe check out the sunday roanoke newspaper. then theres always the wonderful career fairs that are pretty pointless to science majors.
