Kinda worried about my BlueThroat Trigger?

Sometime between one and two weeks my bluethroat started eating. Now he loves the squid. Give him some time and maybe some garlic.

Did you try and feed him every day? or did you give him some time to adjust?

Mine is scared of people. If anyone is around the tank he'll hide, but if I 'peer' from a distance he'll be swimming around.

Psyire,

How about some meaty foods attached to a seaweed clip (shrimp or mussell or squid)...

Attach to the clip and leave the area and just peer at the tank...

Well after days of having a turkey baster shoved in his face he decided to taste a few morsels of Alaskan King Crab. He ate about 4 chunks the size of a mysis or so.

I'm glad he's finally got 'something' in his system.

He dosen't seem to mind the turkey baster too much, he'll even bite at the end of it. However he lets 95% of watever comes out just fall to the sand. He only really ate the peices that landed right on his mouth.

It's a victory, but a small one never-the-less.

I think I'll try the crab in the clip before I head out to work tonight. That should give him alot of time with nobody around the tank.

read my signature. seriously. Its hard to leave a new fish alone, especially when hes not eating. BUT you may be stressing him out MORE by shoving the turkey baster at him, watching him constantly, etc etc.

just walk away... go for the crab in the clip, but don't try to put it in his face, don't drop it near him, don't watch him for hours and hours. It'll just stress him out a bit more.
I KNOW its hard to do. My jawfish hid for the first week, and I wasn't able to see the worms under his skin because of that... but I still just WALKED AWAY. I didn't know if he was dead, alive, healthy... nothing. Your lucky that you can see yours, make sure hes swimming around and active. Observe for shrinking stomach, otherwise, stop the frantic feeding... feed when you normally will, and he'll get used to the routine. He may eat, he may not. Feed the tank, walk away so he comes out. in a week or two or even more he may calm down enough that you can watch him eat. But for now, hes just too stressed, and you look like a BIG SHARK that is going to EAT HIM (remember, he was just swimming around on a BIG REEF and was at the bottom of the totem pole)

You may be right, and I might have made it sound like I'm all over this fish, but I'm not.

It's actually fairly inactive around the tank right now. I'm around for maybe 2 hours a day. (in the same room) I've only spent about 15 mins each day trying to feed this fish.

Other than that it's just him and his tankmates.

Everyday he becomes more and more social, he's swimming around probably 4x as much as the 2nd day he was in the tank.

My computer is beside the tank so I am able to sit fairly motionless and observe the tank a few hours each day.

ok, that sounds better... it sounded like you plastered yourself to the tank, sitting there for 6+ hours, constantly trying to feed it.

but I still go by my advise ;)

YES!

A large victory today! He ate a mixture of krill, mysis, plankton & cyclopeeze. However it had to be delivered via. the turkey baster. I'm thinking he's starting to dig this turkey baster as he isn't shying away from it at all. He comes right out and starts biting at the end. He's still not eating the food out of the water column yet, but this is a good start.

I'm happy to have got quite abit into his stomach today. He ate fairly well. He won't touch the food coming out of the baster if he dosen't get it 'right away'. If it happens to float down below him or behind him, he won't go after it. He just heads back to the baster. He seems to be most interested in the food moving inside the baster as I gently 'pulse' it to get it to come out.

I'd also like to point out that I witnessed him 'gulping' or trying to eat things in the water column while he was swimming around. (but I couldn't see anything that he was eating)

I plan to continue updating this thread with my trigger feeding adventure incase sometime down the road someone else has the same problem.

I'm very happy he's eating!

I'd also like to point out that tonight will be his 8th night in the tank. He was added to the tank exactly 1 week ago.

He ate a fair amount of the previous mixture again today. His stomach is still deflated though, I'm still alittle worried.

He'll only eat from the turkey baster, does anyone have any idea's on how to coax him into eating from the water column, or Nori from a clip?

No, I haven't soaked it in anything. But my tangs are at it constantly and he just ignores them and it completely. You think soaking it would help?

Where do you buy Garlic extract? The local grocery store does not carry it.

now that hes eating, fatten him up good-I don't believe in garlic, but zoe and selcon are good.

also, try chopping up the nori small, and putting that through the baster. Maybe, once hes used to eating from the baster, tie some nori to the outside of it... let him pick at it. THEN attach a clip somehow to the baster, with the nori in it... then, slowly start using the baster to tempt him other places: closer to where you want the nori clip...

That's a good idea, I'll incorporate some Nori in the baster tomorrow. I'm going to start soaking everything in Zoe as to give him a nutritional boost. Thanks for the tips.

So he ate a fair amount again today. This time it was mysis & plankton enriched with Kent Zoe. His stomach is looking better than the previous few days.

His preception of food is improving as he ate some of the food floating around outside the turkey baster today. Previous he wouldn't touch anything that had left the turkey baster for more than a second or two.

My tangs have started to figure out what this turkey baster is doing, so they've began to eat along side him now. There is very little aggression between him and the tangs. The first couple of days my RS-Sailfin decided that he would pester him but that has virtually vanished.

I'm going to try the nori in the baster tomorrow, I didn't want to switch up the foods too much until he's alittle more healthy.

Well it's been awhile now and he's still eating good.

He'll only eat from the turkey baster but atleast now he'll come right to it and I only have to stick the tip in the water.

I snapped some pictures for ya guys.
