It looks like NTSB will have the preliminary report in the next week or two.
I flew into LAX last Sunday morning roughly around 9:00 am and was in Manhattan Beach shortly thereafter. The photo below was taken at 9:53am, eight minutes after the crash. As you can see the visibility was poor that day. So the weather must have played the main role.
What's strange so far is the pilot lost or abandoned communication shortly before the crash. Was he in distress? Did he have a heart attack?
I am also a little skeptical about the charter company's lack of certification to fly in subpar conditions playing a major role in the crash because the helicopter was sophisticated enough and the pilot was qualified to fly in those conditions (or at least to follow directions from control towers). In other words, certified or not that crash was probably bound to happen. We'll see what the preliminary findings are soon.

I dont mean to put blame on anyone. But that pilot as a seasoned veteran should have known better then to fly in conditions where you can only see 2 feet in front of you. No matter of he was certified in bad weather conditions one must know when to say no. Especially knowing that your chopper does not have the terrain awareness. Horrible situation that could have been avoided with a simple. "I Dont feel comfortable flying in this, Sorry KOBE". I grew up watching him laker fan since 95 so this one hurts. Last time I felt this pain after a death was from my little still born cousin in 98. Rest in paradise Bryants and everyone else

I completely agree with you that at some point one has to stop the flight. When they took off from OC the weather seemed ok and then quickly deteriorated. Perhaps the pilot underestimated the fog after leaving Burbank.

Its like driving for us. We as people from the bay aren't used to driving in snow. So guess what we dont really drive in snow and if we do we drive at a crawl
